Leica Camera AG has today released updated firmware for its D-LUX 5 and D-LUX 5 Titanium digital cameras, following in the footsteps of that released by partner company Panasonic for its LX5 digital camera a little over three months ago. Firmware v2.0 for the D-LUX 5 looks to exactly mirror that for the DMC-LX5, making a number of changes to add new features and improve performance. There's a new Miniature Effect function in the D-LUX 5's My Colour mode, which adds either a horizontal or vertical graduated blur effect to images. Leica, the historic premium camera brand is looking to increase its market share to 1% of the global camera market. Speaking to German Newspaper, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, chairman and majority owner of Leica, Andreas Kaufmann, said that the company hoped to achieve its target within the next 10 years.Currently, Leica enjoys a share of 0.15%, with the US forming its biggest customer base. Kaufmann also told the newspaper that he expects China to overtake as the biggest market within five years. Leica has announced a collaboration with British designer Paul Smith.The limited edition cases are made to fir the Leica D-Lux 5 digital camera. Just 300 of the cases will be made available. 150 will be in a smooth chocolate brown calf leather with the famous Paul Smith vintage multi-stripe on the sides. A further 150 will be made ina light grey croc-style embossed leather with purple lining.The cases are hand made in England and embossed with Paul Smith for Leica on the back.
