It turns out the S range has more than just taken its inspiration from the Image X family. Once you remove the gold/silver/copper exterior, you're left with a very standard pair of black headphones: less classy, but still refined and well-designed. The other advantage, of course, is how they fit into your ear, with the earphones sliding right into the ear canal. They're not likely to prove uncomfortable for anybody, even if you've never worn in-ear headphones before. We also liked the sliding clip on the headphone cable which brings the two halves together. That means you can choose to wear the S2s with the cable running down your back, for instance. The ration of accessories is very stingy though: three different sizes of ear tips and a soft case really isn't very much and we were disappointed. Although the S2s have all of the usual problems of in-ear headphones with membranes, Klipsch does well at managing them. There is clearly an emphasis on the bottom end of the spectrum, but it isn't the sticky, stifling mess it sometimes is. Low notes are all reasonably even, too.

Best iPod iPhone speaker dockClose your eyes and imagine, for a moment, that you've popped to town on a sunny afternoon to buy yourself a speaker dock for your iPhone or iPod. Easy, right? Well it is until you get to the shops and are confronted by row upon row of the things. All shapes and sizes, from cheap and cheerful to those costing hundreds of pounds. Even if the store attendants encourage y...

Jamo may best be known for speakers, but the company also offers a small range of in-ear phones of which the wEAR In30 is the middle model. The drive unit is identical to that used in, at least, one Klipsch model (Klipsch being Jamo's parent company these days), but other details are different and there's no reason to suppose that this would be a Klipsch retread. Jamo's description mentions 'passi...

AirPlay was originally demoed by Steve Jobs during the announcement of the new Apple TV, but then its memory slipped away. Maybe it was the long wait for iOS 4.2 that dulled its impact, or perhaps it was the lack of AirPlay-compatible devices on the market. Either way, this is a technology to shout about. While streaming a video from your iPhone to your Apple TV (as shown by Steve) is great, there...

Dell has unveiled its latest Alienware laptops, with a refreshed M11X gaming netbook joined by the 18-inch M18X and the M14X.The headliner is the M18X – very much a desktop replacement rather than something you'll be carrying around with you in daily life – which apparently "lays claim to the title of the most powerful 18-inch gaming laptop in the universe". A bold claim indeed. The 18-incher w...

World-famous conductor Herbert von Karajan's response, on being introduced to the delights of the compact disc in the early 1980s, was "All else is gaslight". It's a great one-liner, but was he right? Wasn't CD little more than a digital version of the vinyl LP anyway, with a laser replacing a stylus? If so, then Linn's Akurate DS system is far more radical. It takes the whole process of listening...
