Jays t-Jays Three

Jays, the Swedish earphone manufacturer, produces a lot of similarly named products, which also happen to have similar designs. The look is clean, simple, and usually black, and the audio performance often emphasizes bass response. The $99.99 (direct) Jays t-Jays Three is the top-of-the-line option in the t-Jays series (there are several other lines, like a-Jays, c-Jays, and q-Jays), and it boasts some pretty powerful audio performance, with deep bass and highly sculpted high-mids and highs. Vocals sound crisp, and stand alongside intense low frequencies. In no way is this a pair for purists, but at $100, the t-Jays Three offers a solid array of accessories (no mobile device controls, though) and impressive sound. DesignThe t-Jays Three are a uniform, matte black, and the overall design is simple—the only real flourish is the etched logo on each earpiece. The earpiece's angled contour incorporates a vented bass port, helping to provide some of the booming low frequency response, but also to stabilize the earpiece, as it presses gently against the outer ear.

Jays t-JAYS Three review

Dedicated to headphones and earphones, Jays designs in Sweden, but manufactures in China, maintaining several ranges of products each of which is closely targeted, for instance at the phone/ music-player user. The t-JAYS range is where the hi-fi lives and boasts a 10mm driver and an angled sound tube, in an assembly which is shown on the company website as nestling securely in the ear. We didn't quite manage to duplicate such secure mounting but with a little experimenting with earbuds (several sizes are supplied) we contrived a comfortable and secure fit. The cable is quite short, though an extension is provided and there's a neat little toggle which can be used to adjust the amount of cable that's split. We enjoyed the sound of this model, but in general would have liked a little more insight and precision. Even after extensive fiddling and prolonged listening, we couldn't persuade ourselves that the bass is entirely honest: it seems more than a touch over-present and, perhaps more disturbingly, generalised in quality. That is, it's easy to hear that bass is there, but sometimes tricky to discern which instrument is playing it. Midrange is more exact and, at best, quite pleasingly detailed, but it still lacks some of the finesse we've heard from other models.

Jays t-Jays Three Review

The t-Jays Three earphones by Swedish manufacturer Jays offer outstanding sound quality, but feature an awkward design that may be uncomfortable for some users. Jays, one of our favorite headphone manufacturers, goes off the unbeaten path with its t-Jays Three earphones, which are designed to offer a wider dynamic range than some of the other earphones in the product lineup. Priced at about $99, the t-Jays Three rest at the top of the t-Jays lineup. The t-Jays Three earphones differ from the other Jays earphones in a number of ways. The first is the 10 mm driver, which is the largest in the company’s lineup. Sensitivity is rated in the middle of the pack at 98 dB at 1kHz, but the frequency response is lower than the other Jays earphones, rated at 15 Hz to 25,000 Hz rating. Overall, the t-Jays Three are supposed to produce a wider sound range with deeper bass than the company’s other products. As with all, or most of the Jays earphones currently available, the t-Jays Three come in some pretty impressive product packaging, and with a plethora of accessories that include a 70cm extension cord (plus standard 60cm cord for a total of 130cm), five different-sized silicone ear tips, an airplane adapter, stereo splitter and high quality, hard plastic carrying case.
