Insignia NS-DPF8IP

Some digital photo frames focus more on the "photo frame" aspect than the "digital" aspect, employing detailed bezels, wall mounts, and making certain concessions in order to resemble typical analog picture frames. Then there's the Insignia NS-DPF8IP, a $99.99, 8-inch photo frame that eschews convention (and picture-frame-like design) in favor of a ton of multimedia features. It's not the best-looking option, but its competitive price and hefty feature set (which includes an iPod dock) make it our Editors' Choice for non-wireless digital photo frames. If you want a tasteful, classic frame in which to show your photos, you'll be disappointed by the DPF8IP. It looks more like a Sony Dash ($199, 4 stars) than a conventional photo frame. Its flat, glossy black frame sits at an angle, mounted securely on a stand that also has a slot for the included remote control and a pop-out iPod dock. The top of the frame holds more buttons than your average clock-radio: there are controls for power, volume, alarm/time functions, media playback, and menu navigation. If you want to use it as a high-tech alarm clock, it even has a large, flat snooze button. Finally, a light sensor on the top of the frame conserves power by dimming or turning off the screen when the lights are off.
