The Fujifilm FinePix F750EXR ($349.95 direct) is a 16-megapixel point-and-shoot camera with a long 20x zoom range. Despite packing such an ambitious lens, it's small enough to slide into your pocket, and manages to squeeze in quite a few physical controls. It doesn't have a GPS or Raw shooting support like Fuji's top end model, the F770EXR ($379.95 direct), but produces sharp JPG images nonetheless. On image quality, it runs neck and neck with our Editors' Choice, the Sony Cyber-shot HX30V ($419.99, 4 stars), but that camera is faster, integrates Wi-Fi, and is more well rounded than the F750EXR. Design and Features The curvy F750EXR looks a lot like the other cameras in its family, including the Fujifilm FinePix F600EXR ($349.95, 3 stars). The body has some interesting lines, including a rounded top plate and an angled Mode dial. The camera measures 2.4 by 4.1 by 1.4 inches, weighs 8 ounces, and can be had in white, red, or black finishes. This makes it roughly the same size and weight as the Canon PowerShot SX260HS ($349.99, 4 stars)—it is 2.4 by 4 by 1.2 inches and 7.7 ounces.
The FinePix F750EXR is one of Fujifilm's latest compact travel zoom cameras, released alongside the more expensive F770EXR which supports RAW shooting and GPS. We took the lesser—but still strong—F750 for a spin last week, and found it to be a comfortable, usable camera that's both pocketable and flexible, not to mention that long 20x lens. Contrary to many of the compacts we’ve tested this year, the F750’s design is more rounded and “toy-like” than the competition. But this decision leads to better ergonomics, and plenty of room for the large 20x lens. The chrome lens barrel is quite a bit larger than most cameras of this size, and protrudes well away from the body when fully extended. Mechanical action is fast though not precise, and this is worsened by the finicky electronic zoom lever in front of the shutter release. Image quality is actually quite strong, particularly for a travel zoom. We were amazed that the jump to 20x didn’t negatively affect sharpness, as is often the case with new models. Colors are also very accurate, and noise reduction isn’t bad.
