Product Survey: In-Ear Headphones

Do you remember the success of the Aurvana In-Ears two years ago? Then we heard nothing more from Creative about them. After a long break, they're back with the In-Ear 2s. This time it will be much harder to stand out from the crowd as the competition is ruder than ever. The difference in design with the first In Ears is radical. The In Ear 2s are compact, very well finished and classy. This is down to the predominant use of brushed metal on both the speakers and the cable connection. We like. The same goes for the bundle which is very generous; 6 sets of tips, a cleaning tool, an adaptor for planes and a case. Only Klipsch or Jays do better. We wish Creative had also included some foam tips. You don't notice the In-Ear 2s too much and you get the same sort of comfort you get with Q-Jays. Both are in the same category, in terms of both compactness and weight. We can at least congratulate Creative here. Too many manufacturers forget that an audio product isn't only defined by audio quality. Creative has made an unusual choice for a generalist: the sound is produced by a balanced armature transducer and not a dynamic transducer. This gives a really precise sound.
