Bose SoundLink Wireless Mobile Speaker Review
The Bose SoundLink Wireless Mobile speaker offers big, rich sound in a small, sleek package. Starting at $299 ($349 for the leather version), this 2.9-pound device has a clever cover that not only doubles as a stand but turns the device off when closed. If you want a Bluetooth speaker, this is the one to get.At 9.5 x 5.1 x 1.9 inches and 2.9 pounds, the SounLink is a bit heavy, but it's still very portable, easily slipping into a messenger bag or large purse. It's also fairly rugged, as Bose claims to have exposed the Soundlink to vigorous drop testing as well as environmental testing for sand, salt, fog, wind, and moisture.Thanks to its smart chocolate-brown leather cover, the Soundlink Wireless Mobile Speaker looks elegant in just about any setting. Bose offers additional leather covers in Burgundy and Tan as well as nylon covers in black, red, and purple. The covers are also sold separately ($29.95 nylon, $49.95 leather) for added customization.The best part about the SoundLink's design is that the leather cover flips back, acting as a stand and revealing a slate-gray speaker grille surrounded by chrome. When you flip the cover closed, it automatically shuts down the speaker to save power, similar to the Smart Cover on the iPad 2.
Bose SoundLink Wireless Mobile Speaker Review
In what world would you expect a lot from a small speaker that boasts of Bluetooth capabilities? Well, you can, and you should, if you live in the same world as Bose! This tiny speaker with a truly long name does have a very impressive feature set. How does that translate into real life performance? Let us find out. Bose has integrated the protective case as well as the stand quite uniquely. And they are available in nylon and leather versions. Both are sold as different versions of the same product, with a price difference as well. The design is simple, with no unnecessary design elements integrated. The top has all the controls, clearly marked and the buttons are quite big as well. The specific number of buttons there proves the keep-it-simple approach - power, Bluetooth, AUX, volume up/down and mute. Just above the speaker grille is a later of LEDs indicating the connectivity source, Bluetooth pairing status, power and battery status. Flip the SoundLink Wireless Mobile Speaker over, and there you have the power/charging port and the 3.5mm jack for AUX sources. The case (leather in the case of our review unit) protects the silver aluminum grille when the speaker is turned off, and can be flipped open to go beneath the speaker and act as a stand. Works well.

Bose's latest audio creation, the SoundLink Wireless Mobile Speaker, uses Bluetooth to stream audio from any device it can pair with, be that a mobile phone, MP3 player, tablet or laptop. In a year full of new speaker docks that use Apple's AirPlay to stream audio from iPhones, iPods, and iPads, Bose took the all-inclusive route by using Bluetooth instead of AirPlay. And that's a good thing, especially since Bluetooth audio streaming has improved considerably over the past couple of years. The SoundLink is small, but gets quite loud, and its built-in protective cover doubles as a stand. Throw in a portable build and a rechargeable battery, and you've got a great portable sound system. At $299.95 (direct), the SoundLink isn't cheap, but because of its top-notch portable design, durability, versatility, and most of all, its strong audio performance, it earns our Editors' Choice award. DesignThe rectangular SoundLink's measures 5.1 by 9.6 by 1.9 inches and weighs 2.9 pounds, with a front face that is mostly black steel speaker grille, with black matte plastic and \"automotive-grade” brushed chrome around the sides. Its size and flat, almost hardback book-like shape make it ideal for packing.
