We have collected 2 reviews of the Altec Lansing Octiv Duo M202. Experts rate Altec Lansing Octiv Duo M202 7/10. Reviewsor.com helps you find reviews, best prices, user reviews of the Altec Lansing Octiv Duo M202 and Altec Lansing Docking Speaker.
From its two side-by-side iPod docking areas to its triangular wedge-shaped contour, the Altec Lansing Octiv Duo manages to look different without looking silly. What the $99.95 (direct) speaker dock lacks in audio quality it makes up for in ingenuity. Download the free Music Mixer app to your iPod touch or iPhone and relax as the dock mixes music back and forth between your two docked iPods. You can choose what percentage of the mix comes from which docked player as they both charge and prevent bickering over whose iPod to listen to. It's a tech solution a lot of households could benefit from - too bad the app won't work with non-app-based iPods, though most can still be docked and played. The Octiv Duo is almost triangular, but the side that would be its hypotenuse - the front panel that houses the pair of two-inch drivers behind a black cloth grille - is rounded. Measuring 3.8 by 10.7 by 5.7-inches, the Octive Duo's design is minimal, with two iPod/iPhone docks sitting side-by-side on the top panel and two speaker ports, which move air and improve bass response, flanking either side of the grille. Buttons for power, Source, and Volume control are situated up top, in front of the docks, and orange indicators between the docks and the buttons glow to show which iPod is in use.
Earlier in 2010 we reviewed the Altec Lansing Octiv Mini iPhone-iPod speaker and praised its compact size and attractive minimalist styling. Now Octiv is expanding the line with the dual-dock Octiv Duo, which is nearly double the size of its smaller sibling and costs about twice as much--a still affordable $99. As with the Octiv Mini, Altec keeps things simple. After all, why build in a bunch of extras like an LCD for the clock, an AM/FM radio, or fancy alarm systems when they're all basically redundant to the impressive built-in capabilities of the iPhone or iPod Touch? Instead, like iHome, Altec Lansing focused on designing custom apps that enhance the usability of the speaker dock. When you first plug in your iPhone or iPod Touch, it will prompt you to install not one but two free apps: Alarm Rock and Music Mix. Alas, once installed, the apps won't automatically launch when you dock your device; that's an Apple issue. Since we last saw the Alarm Rock app, Altec has improved it a bit. In addition to snooze and sleep modes, you still get the capability to set alarms only on certain days so you could, for example, have a weekend alarm and a weekday alarm; you can set the alarm to go off on individual days as well, such as Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
