Review: Discovery Wonderwall Multimedia Projector

This is a review of the Discovery Wonderwall Multimedia Projector, demonstraiting it's capabilities, and shortfalls. What's included: * Projector (of course) * Composite A/V Cables (analog NTSC, USA version displayed) * Special 3-episode DVD (DVD player not included in PJ, unlike Jaks Pacific version) * Instruction Manual (inside DVD package) The projector itself has a handle, which you can use for aiming the centered image higher than flat down (no keystone correction, it's a toy, after all), and can be placed vertically, to project images on a ceiling. You twist the lens to focus the image, up to at least 120" (can go farther), but you'll have to do a lot of twisting. Due to the terrible design in the halogen lamp's reflector, you are left with a blurred piece of video in the center, while the edges are clear. When viewing a solid color (black, most noticable), the uniformity is terrible, but won't be too noticable when you're watching a video, displaying images, etc. The high point of this projector is the sound quality. Granted, it's nothing special, nor has superior range, it's what you'd expect from small speakers, which isn't all too bad. With I could say the same about the video. It's a low 320x240 LCD with Delta-Pattern RGB elements, which stands out like a sore thumb when video gets about 32" in size. The Ray Projector vs a 3M Mpro-120 pico projector

We have tested the Ray Projector (LCoS-based pico projector, 640x480, 8-10 lumens) vs 3M's MPro-120 pico projector (LCoS 640x480 too, 12 lumens). . Here's a sample projected video from 1.8m (6 feet). The image on the top is from the Ray. You can see that the 3M produces a larger image (60" vs 46") which is a bit brighter (but it's larger!). This is part 1 of 2, of a basic overview, and operation, of the 3M MPro120 Pico (Pocket) Projector, side-by-side with it's predecessor, the MPro110. You'll note the major improvements made with the new LCoS display (640x480 native resolution), versus the separate Red, Green, and Blue dots on the MPro110. Also, this features sound capability, and a 4-hour (expected) life on a single charge, under normal usage. You'll know how much time is left, with the power meter, a VERY useful tool (as well as the power LED's on top change color, based on remaining charge left). A very impressive product! The newer MPro150 is the same, except the light boost goes to 15 lumens (12 on the MPro120), as well as having 1GB internal memory for photos and video, as well as an SD card slot.

We at micro-projector.com have receive our demo P1 Jr pico projector. This new pico projector is a departure from other pico projectors is that it has a great onboard speaker, an excellent video / picture player, and best of all is cheap at $120 (on www.aaxatech.com). We did some quick shake down testing and liked it a lot better than the older 3M Mpro 120 or the Optoma PK102. The only downside was the 1 hour battery life, which we hope to see improved, but for the low cost of this projector we cannot find any complaints. It's not a business projector and can't be used when there's ambient light but in the dark it's great fun and a brilliant companion for the Iphone.

This is Part 2 of the review for the 3M MPro120 Pico Projector. In this part, we demonstrate how it'll perform, visually, under normal, and extreme lighting conditions, as well as in a pitch dark environment. Also, you get to see the dot matrix pattern of the LCoS display. NOTE: When doing the 100+ inch video test, the actual appearance of the projected image is brighter and more clear than shown, due to the limitation of MP4 video, and a camera that's not quite as sensitve in the dark.
