Product Survey: Compact Flash Cards

The tech specs for Transcend's new 400x 64 GB Compact Flash card claim write speeds of 60 MB/s and read speeds of 90 MB/s. Transcend's website proudly announces that this 400x card can meet the 'demanding requirements of performance-conscious photographers', allowing them to get the most out of their digital SLRs. During our tests, Trancend's Compact Flash card didn't live up to the hype. When writing photos to the card, it reached 22.6 MB/s, making it around 38 MB/s slower than the manufacturer suggests. That discrepancy is even larger for read speeds: it only managed 37.4 MB/s, a long way short of the 90 MB/s we were promised.
