Mainly designed for video and photo work, the Sony Vaio VPCF11 is equipped with a wide Full HD VAIO screen with Blu-Ray for "optimal High Definition entertainment", as well as "cinema style surround sound". According to Sony, its NVIDIA graphics card and Intel Core i5 processor give it "exceptional performance" and multimedia potenial. Made up solely of matte grey plastic, the Sony Vaio VPCF11M1DE makes a stunning first impression. At last, a computer you can use without worrying about leaving finger marks everywhere! The wrist rest is textured so as to reduce sweat and stay clean. Although we've seen better from Sony, they've used good quality plastic. The uses small separated keys (15 x 15 mm), like all other recent Sony laptops. There's a number pad on the right, which is practical. Keying is soft and comfortable with firm responsive keys. The is situated just under the space bar and slightly to the left to avoid errors while typing. It has a smooth, matte finish and a good glide with satisfactory precision (although we've seen better). Just underneath, the left and right click buttons are well assembled and responsive. The produces a high quality image.
Sony's VAIO F-Series is a relatively new release and comprises midrange multimedia machines. The VAIO VPC-F11M1E/H is not the best looking machine but, like the Samsung R780, offers great value for money in terms of performance, and is also a great laptop for watching Blu-ray movies on. This is due to the impressive widescreen display. It may not be the brightest, but the 1920 x 1080-pixel Full HD resolution provides razor-sharp images. Colours are excellent, with contrast really impressing and, consequently, Blu-ray movies look amazing. However, the high resolution, when combined with the relatively small 16.4-inch screen, means that text can appear quite small, which may not suit those with poor eyesight. The laptop's chassis isn't as strikingly designed as the Samsung R780, and the matt-silver plastics make the machine look cheaper than it actually is. However, the laptop hardly shows dirt at all, meaning minimum upkeep is required during ownership. The keyboard is large, spacious and provides a firm and concise typing experience. The keys themselves feature a textured finish which provides a nice feel and a good purchase when typing.
