Stone Giant DX11 Tessellation Demo on GTX 470

4.51 min.

This demo recently came out to demonstrate tessellation on newer DX11 gpu's. If you press "enter" when the demo starts, it will start benchmarking mode. You can enable a fps counter with f4. f1 activates tessellation view, f2 changes tessellation level, and f3 turns diffusion on/off. CPU: i7 860: 3.4 GHz GPU: EVGA GTX 470 SC 702/904/1403 RAM: G.SKILL ECO 1600 MHz 7-8-7-24 1T MOBO: Asus Sabertooth PSU: Seasonic X Gold 750

EVGA GTX 470 SC Edition Gaming Rig Updated

9.40 min.

Finally decided on a graphics card! I went with the GTX 470 from the green team (Sorry no unboxing). I was going back and forth between this and the 5850, but I felt I should go with what's newer and has more features optimised for future games. For the type of games I play, I feel I made the right decision. I know the fermi cards in general got mediocre reviews as far as improved performance compared to ATI's 5800 series along with heat and power issues, but my PSU (Seasonic X Gold 750) fan still hasn't turned on, and on idle (40%), the fan on the GTX 470 is silent! To keep temps reasonable during gaming, you need to have it set at 65% (audible). After gaming for 2hrs, the max temp I reached was 85C. I also have it overclocked to almost a 480: stock 470: 607/3348/1215 mine OC'd: 702/3616/1403 stock 480: 700/3696/1401 This card overclocks well, I've seen on EVGA forums people hitting 800 core and 1600 on shaders. I went with EVGA because of the lifetime warranty, ability to overclock easy with precision, and their new OC scanner (stress tests gpu and scans for artifacts to find a stable gpu overclock). My i7 860 is lightly OC'd to 3.4GHz. On Unigine Heaven 2.0 benchmark: DX11, Shaders High, Tessellation Extreme, Anisotrophy 16x, AA 4x FPS: 28.7, Score: 723, Min FPS: 17, Max FPS: 69.9 On HardwareCanucks for the same benchmark/settings but CPU OC'd to 4.0: GTX 470: 29.2 GTX 480: 36.9 HD 5870: 25.3
