I installed a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB Hybrid Hard Drive (HHHD) which is a combination of 500GB of HDD and 4GB of SSD in my 2010 13" MacBook Pro. The drive supposedly remembers the most used applications and stores them in the SSD as cache. The drive is significantly faster than my stock Hitachi 250GB 5400rpm. How much faster? Let's try a boot up on the machine of OS X. If you have questions, feel free to ask. At some point, I will install Windows 7 a la Boot Camp but that might not be for a little while (lazy and don't need it at the moment).

www.newegg.com Today we're taking a closer look at some new storage offerings from Seagate. -- Seagate GoFlex Family of Products -- The GoFlex family of products features 2.5" and 3.5" external hard drives that have an upgradeable custom SATA adapter. Each adapter can be swapped out for a different interface, so you can move from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0, eSATAp, or Firewire 800. The drive works with a built-in algorithm that tracks your most-commonly-used data; by pre-loading this data onto the SSD portion of the drive, the drive's performance improves noticably over time. The first 45 seconds is what it takes to open Final Cut Pro on a unibody MacBook Pro. The remainder demonstrates how well the hybrid XT shortens the startup time. Pretty snappy!

This is a video of the new Seagate Momentus XT 500GB 7200 RPM Hybrid SSD and HDD. It has 4GB flash memory in which it stores the most frequent data such as the operating system, and a 500GB hard drive for all the other media. This video shows everything boot up in about 30 seconds after the Mac chime. It has been rebooted about 5 times now, so it should be settled with it's bootup time. I've heard / seen ~20 second bootups too, but those are crazy. Maybe when I use it longer, it will smartly cache more things into the flash portion of the drive.

My thoughts on the m11x gaming notebook or netbook as some may call it. Even though not having a dvd drive that I find very little use for now, this laptop is one of the best portables out there. Having up to 8 hours of battery life and being able to play games on the go can't get much better. Laptop: (Alienware M11x) SU7300 @ 1.6GHz 4GB Ram 500GB Seagate Momentus XT Drive Accessories: Logitech VX-Nano Mouse Creative X-FI USB Sound Card Creative HS-900 Headset Thanks for watching! Like me on Facebook: www.facebook.com To answer viper2131's question: The portability is great! Perfect size to carry around with much more power than a netbook. The laptop runs very cool and when on battery using IGP the fan almost never turns on. The Build quality is great and I've had no hinge issues even though I heard about them before I bought this. For the last question, read the title again.
