The AMD Radeon HD 6950 has been out for nearly 7 months now, yet we are still seeing new releases with tweaks and minor changes. This fact really says something about AMD’s 6900 series. They are powerful cards capable of trading blows with Nvidia’s lineup while staying affordable. Sapphire builds off of the solid base of the 6950 with their DiRT 3 Edition card and make some much welcomed changes that really allow it to stand out. Sporting a custom PCB, a new dual fan cooler, 2GBs of RAM, and of course the bundled DiRT 3, the Sapphire HD 6950 DiRT 3 Edition proves that you can teach and old dog new tricks. The 6950 comes in a very sharp looking high-gloss box. The front of the box primarily promotes the DiRT 3 game the card is associated with as well as some key features. The back and bottom just lists more features and specs as well as contents. Inside of the main outer box we find a plain cardboard box that contains the card in its anti-static bag as well as a smaller cardboard box which holds all of the accessories. Aside from the card itself you also get the standard two molex to 6-pin converters, a crossfire bridge, a DVI to VGA converter, driver cd, owner’s manual, and a case badge. But Sapphire didn’t stop there.
Digg DiggWith the recent release of DiRT 3 AMD announced that it would be packing the game with select video cards. Of course Sapphire’s Radeon HD 6950 was one of those cards. From a technical standpoint the Radeon HD 6950 is basically the same card as the original card we reviewed back in December, except Sapphire has improved the cooling solution. They have increased the size of the cooling surface, added 5 copper heatpipes, and finally added a second fan. All of this plus the free game makes this the definite choice when it comes to deciding which Radeon HD 6950 to get. Read on to check out our review! Special thanks to Sapphire for providing us with the Radeon HD 6950 Dirt 3 Edition 2GB Video Card to review. The Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 Dirt 3 Edition comes in a nice retail package, of course with the Dirt 3 logo on the front. On the back of the box is some more information about of the card. Opening the box up everything is nicely packed inside and the card is well protected. Getting everything out you have the Radeon HD 6950 card, 2x 6pin power adapters, CrossFire bridge, DVI to VGA adapter, HDMI cable, driver CD, manual, and voucher for the Dirt 3 game.
Are you looking for a new graphics card for your system? Are you unable to play some of your favorite games at a high resolution while still being able to keep the advanced settings high? Maybe you are behind the times and still running Microsoft DX10 or even DX9, while more and more games are beginning to use DX11 in their graphics engines? Are you a fan of the DiRT racing-sim series and have not made it out to the stores or on Steam to purchase a copy of it yet? Well you are in luck if you are in the mood to upgrade your graphics card and receive a free copy of DiRT3! Sapphire has just released a new packaged card in its line-up, the HD6950 2GB; however, this time it comes with another perk, DiRT3! With the release of the Sapphire HD6950 2GB DiRT3 Edition graphics card, you can expect to not only find a powerful card inside with a copy of Codemaster's DiRT3 that you can redeem and activate on your Steam account, but you are also going to find an upgraded cooling solution installed on the card. I am very curious to see exactly what the Sapphire HD6950 2GB DiRT3 Edition looks like, as well as what kind of graphics performance and cooling performance it yields. So let's get to it!
