I made this video so people could see the startup times in windows 7, real startup times with the full standard bios screens, with different memory, DDR DDR2 DDR3, different hard drives, Stock, RAID 0, SSD. And different Processors, Single, Dual, Quad. And to show how it adapts to older hardware. SIDE NOTE: even if you ignore the bios on the quad core with raid 0, it would still lose to the laptop with the SSD including its bios. After using this SSD for a few days its obvious the processor isn't as important for everyday tasks. But I still want my i7 for video editing. Here MacGizmoGuy talks about the performance and design changes in the SSD disk market in 2009 - And swaps out his initial 30GB OCZ SOLID series JMicron based SSD to a new AGILITY drive using the much improved Indilinx controller with 64mb cache onboard. Because my 1st generation MacBook has a SATA I controller chip - and because SATA II is backwards compatible anyways - There's no issue with this SATA II rated Agility drive on it - and in many ways it's SUSTAINED Read/Write specs are well matched to these pre 2008 MacBooks - and Mac minis SATA I controllers. (There was no point in paying up for a Vertex or Summit drive, really.) It should be noted the often quoted PEAK Read/Write speeds often occur only intermittently - more theoretical than Real-World sustained thruput in day to day tasks.

RAID SPEED TEST /Benefits of Raid

This is a quick Raid Array test I did to show the benefits of a raid array to those folks out there who have never used one, or dont know what a raid array is. Quite simply a Raid Array is nothing more than A "Redundant array of inexpensive Disks" or a bunch of cheap hard drives working together in various performance configurations to allow maximum throughput to be pushed through by all drives at once, thereby increasing maximum data flow. As an example one of my Samsung 250 Gb hard drives has a maximum burst rate of about 180mb per second, while 4 of them in Raid "0" bursts at over 370 mb. Cost for comparison wise A single Velociraptor Drive ( which costs 240-250 dollars) has a maximum burst rate of approx 210-220 mb, while my entire Array costs 200.00 for all 4 drives. And I get a Full terabyte of space, not 150 GB.
