Upgrading Factory Built PC (Custom PC): Part 2

2.13 min.

The whole reason behind building a custom computer is you save hundreds if not thousands of dollars. This build is this video was built for $650 all together. The Dell E521 we tried to upgrade was purchased for $1000 in 2006. As you can see, its far more inexpensive to build one yourself. If this computer was to be sold, it would be worth $1000+ in an online retailer. OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W - Poor Quality Control - A true Fatal1ty. Noisy!

0.41 min.

Noisy. Noisy. Noisy. Noisy. Noisy. I purchased a new modular power supply from Newegg. I picked OCZ because I expected quality and this is what I got: i42.tinypic.com i40.tinypic.com Notice the pictures above. This is how the PSU came. It is brand new! I haven't even had time to put it in a case as I was testing it before normal use. OCZ if you see this. Care to comment?

READ ON here for my recommendations and observations: _ I recommend this *case* for a first time build or easy building. It is one of the cheaper cases, and is also bigger with not the best airflow ability. Also like i said in the video, the side fan is noisy which may be because of its position, but there is not many options for fan placement. There is also sharp corners and edges on the case. It also has extra width which is not really necessary, but why not for them graphics cards. _ GAMING-wise: This graphics card plays newer games pretty easily, but i havent tried anything newer than L4D2. On GTAIV i was able to play on high settings, but drawing distance around 30 and detail distance around 50. A few times in games the framerate dropped considerably in places where many objects were drawn, which I am suspecting could be influenced by the RAM. I would recommend getting another GB or 2 of RAM to help the games out some, and if you have an extra 40-60$ for a slightly better card. But for an average gamer this will run the games fine for the money. _ I got a Phenom II X2 550 processor, which I was not able to keep stable (yet) with unlocked cores. But none of the parts ran less-than expected. _ I have 2 fans running the computer, which I recommend. The mobo temp is 37 with one fan, and 30 with two. During gaming the CPU temp goes up to 50, otherwise ~40. Graphics card seems to run at a steady 62C. _ Music clip was taken from username "moealaudhi" here: www.youtube.com I ...

I just can't get enough of Crysis...so fu**ing beautiful. Also tested my new HD5850....all i can say is : this monster is a Beast. Every Game is absolutely smooth at 1680x1050 with 8xAA...Crysis with no AA and HP's Ultra High config between 40 and 50 fps ....even with 8xAA 25-30fps.
