NZXT Vulcan Micro-ATX Case

We’ve always been attracted to microATX cases and have long fantasized about building a high-performance PC in a small package. But cases designed for Micro ATX motherboards have always disappointed. Cube-shaped cases are typically cramped, despite consuming twice the floor space of a tower. And while micro-towers take up less space, they often look like something from Home Depot’s appliance department. When NZXT’s Vulcan arrived, we thought this might be the one. The Vulcan offers up military-industrial styling and front-mounted manual fan controls. On top you’ll find two USB ports, power and reset buttons, audio jacks, an eSATA port, and a removable handle for easy carrying. It’s black inside and out. It boasts a cutout on the motherboard tray for easy installation of advanced CPU coolers and the requisite liquid cooling tubes. It can accommodate as many as four hard drives and two optical drives. And the power-supply compartment at the bottom has a down-facing vent for PSUs with 120mm cooling fans. NZXT's Vulcan boasts aggressively pretty looks. So we set about building a system inside what looked like a very promising case.

The case arrived well packaged with formed foam inserts to protect the unit in transit. All necessary thumb screws for the exterior, mounting screws for motherboard, and specialty screws for the included handled were each packaged in clearly marked bags. The NZXT VULCAN features a dual 8W channel fan controller on the front of the case and top mounted fan on/off, light on/off,. 2 x USB 2.0, eSATA, and HD audio + microphone input.

NZXT Vulcan mATX Case Review

“Unique. Unprecedented. Inspired.” This is the motto of NZXT and the Vulcan Case is the embodiment of all three words. NZXT computer cases have really broken into the scene over the past few years, especially with their New Micro ATX case the Vulcan. I was excited to see someone come out with a computer case like this, having always been on the lookout for a good lan party case to make transporting everything easy. The Vulcan was created with serious Gamers in mind with enough space for a full sized graphics card while still maintaining sufficient airflow. Now let’s take a look at the NZXT Vulcan. Who knows? This might be the next purchase for your MATX gaming build. Special thanks to NZXT for providing us with the Vulcan mATX Case to Review. The NZXT Vulcan comes in a box so small that you begin to wonder how all your stuff will fit into the case. Looking at the front of the box you have a picture of the NZXT Vulcan. On other side of the box there is a detailed lettered diagram of the Vulcan at the top half and a diagram key listed below. Upon opening the box, the case is nicely protected by two pieces of styrofoam. When you pull the Vulcan out of the box there is a plastic bag wrapped around it to ensure it is safe during transport. Below is a photo of the case entirely removed from the packaging.
