NZXT Phantom Case Review

The NZXT Phantom series has a new variation up on the market. It isn't exactly a variation that most people would perceive – it's not another drive bay addition, nor addition of fans, rather it is the addition of another color option for the case. When OCC reviewed the NZXT Phantom in July 2010, it was available in red, white, and black inside and out. Recently NZXT has decided to get in touch with their feminine side, or rather their upset stomach, and offer up a Pepto-Bismol Pink Phantom...now that's alliteration. Now if Pepto-Bismol was not your favorite medicine growing up, I know I was afraid of it – every time my grandma would make me take it I'd throw up; now whether that was an actual side effect of the medicine we'll never know, I won't take it anymore...this case should be pretty easy on the stomach. I'm guessing most of you males out there won't be jumping to buy this for yourself, but perhaps it's finally a way to get that cute girl of yours interested in your favorite games. And those of you with a thing for pink – well it's finally here for you; no more horrid spray paint jobs. So let's see what the medicine has in store for us today, will the NZXT Phantom Pink be the Pepto to settle your stomach, or is this one just too much for you to handle?

NZXT Phantom

One of the most overlooked components of any computer is the case itself. Many people are unaware of the importance of having a good computer case: easier hardware changes with a tool-less design, greater airflow with more powerful fans, and significantly easier cable management. Most people also want to have an attractive case that will make others say "WOW." The NZXT Phantom provides all of these measures and more. Not only does it include a fan controller, it also has a design that strays away from the usual rectangular box. Its innovation is only matched by its size and its staggering 140 USD price tag. NZXT decided to pull out all of the stops with this one offering a large variety of extras to appeal to even the most demanding consumer. They also made sure to include plenty of fans for optimal airflow and even managed to squeeze in a few extra spots for more fans which you could add at a later time. All of this is bundled together for a feature packed full tower at $140. The box looks great and will definitely excite anyone who gets to see this beautiful case. The box itself is very simple, but provides plenty of useful insight to the case. Let's hop into the details of this extravagant case.

The Phantom, NZXTs most elegant case to date, was unveiled not that long ago on July 28, 2010. It offers a unique and powerful design for enthusiasts. A complete black (also available in red and white) finish, both inside and out, is complemented by a piano black finish found on the top and front bezel. The case offers plenty of cooling options, support for the latest and greatest hardware, an easy installation, and many other advanced features. Special thanks to NZXT for providing us with the NZXT Phantom Full Tower Chassis to review. NZXT Phantom Case

When NZXT's new Phantom case ($139.99 list) arrived in Ziff Davis Labs recently, someone observed that it looked like something an Imperial Stormtrooper would own. And, well, we could see his point. The version of the Phantom that NZXT had sent us was all glossy white with stark black accents, a far cry from the usual matte colors and subdued metal of most gaming chassis we see. But the Phantom's appearance is not necessarily a bad thing. Unlike the swarms of anonymous footsoldiers who buzzed around the galaxy doing Emperor Palpatine's invidious bidding, this case knows how to stand out in a crowd. Its sharply angular, asymmetrical design on both the front and top panels help ensure its uniqueness amid a sea of case choices that, even at their best, often tend to resemble each other. The Phantom is sufficiently distinct that it won't immediately appeal to everyone, but if you like its looks—or if you can look past them—this case has got a lot else to recomomend it. First and foremost among the Phantom's virtues: It's big, measuring 20.5 by 8.6 by 24 inches (HWD), and thus large enough to house Extended ATX motherboards.

NZXT Phantom Review

Established in 2004, NZXT isa manufacturer that many computer enthusiasts have become fans of. Having manufactured some very popular computer products in the case and cooling category, NZXT is even beginning to dive into high end power supply units. NZXT offers many sleek cases that cater to all enthusiasts in their market as their product line continues to grow every year. I had the pleasure of publishing a review on the NZXT Lexa S that outperformed most of the other cases it was compared against. Unveiled at Computex 2010 earlier this month, the NZXT Phantom is a full tower case with plenty of room for just about anything that consumers would want to have in their cases. The NZXT Phantom offers many integrated solutions and accommodations that provide extra convenience and ease of use that many cases on the market today do not. I remember seeing this case in the Computex article (linked above) and felt a lot of excitement to finally see the Phantom in person. The Phantom is available in Black, White, and Red. I look forward to getting everything put together in the Phantom and seeing what it is capable of!
