NZXT, a company built upon gamers’ dreams, hopes to create products that put consumers first. With the objective of designing unique products catered for hardware enthusiasts and gamers, NZXT has grown into a globally renowned brand recognized for dedication towards creating next generation gaming products. NZXT has won numerous awards from media and publications from across the globe with a product line spanning from gaming chassis, power supplies and gaming input devices. As a corporation formed by gamers, NZXT continues to expand into new horizons and push the limits further with each product unveiling. The NZXT Panzerbox has been designed by NZXT from the base up. It is specifically aimed for those LAN Party gamers who want the entire usual hardware components in a small chassis as well as room for water cooling in a compact area. When creating a computer case from the start, it’s not an easy task and NZXT has certainly proved itself with this unique design.
NZXT’s Panzerbox is akin to a Mini Cooper. It might look diminutive, but it has a surprising amount of space and is feature-packed, to boot. The Panzerbox is smaller than a mid-tower yet it has a slide-out motherboard tray, is made entirely of aluminum, and includes support for 12.2-inch videocards and even water cooling. At $120, it’s even affordable. On paper, the NZXT Panzerbox seems like the perfect case to house your LAN gaming rig. But is there a catch? At 9.6 inches wide by 17.9 inches deep and 17.9 inches high, the Panzerbox’s all-aluminum chassis is one of the most compact modern ATX cases we’ve seen in years. And as mentioned above, that tiny chassis holds a lot of stuff, and still manages to offer decent airflow. The Panzerbox ships with three fans: a 19cm front intake fan, a 19cm top exhaust fan, and a 12cm rear exhaust fan—a pretty standard configuration. It has four 3.5-inch hard drive bays and three 5.25-inch bays. The lower two-bay hard drive cage is removable, and we recommend using it only if you’ve already filled the top two: The bottom drives sit on their sides, perpendicular to the motherboard, blocking airflow to your second GPU (if you’re running one).
LAN parties are fun, but hauling a 40lbs. desktop up three flights of stares for a 6 hour death-match can be a turn off. That’s why great companies, like NZXT, strive to make the lightest of the light computer case that allow you, the gamer, the powerful components you need/deserve and still be able to make it up those stares. In this corner, we have NZXT’s Panzerbox mid-tower LAN case. This featherweight can pack a heavyweight and not tire you out on the trip to the LAN as well as provide the proper cooling for your portable heater. We’ll weigh in the NZXT Panzerbox after the break. NZXT has provided a pretty nice box for this case. The packaging is standard and I didn’t have any issues other than the foam breaking a little while trying to un-box it. The case comes with all the necessary screws to install as well as rails for a radiator. After taking a few moments to examine the NZXT Panzerbox, a few things pop out. This is not an ordinary case. For starters, the entire case is aluminum, including the drive bay covers, which look like plastic in the pictures. The case is also welded and feels very solid.
