Asus EEE PC 900 Vista Vs XP Vs Linux - Boot & Shutdown Test This is the video you have all been requesting, a benchmark between all three systems. After the 3D mark 2003 tests, I was considering a way of benchmarking Linux as well. I did a ray tracing test and a few others but they were not very watchable or YouTube friendly. The test most of you have requested is a straight forward boot test between Linux, XP and Vista. My conclusion is that Linux is still the fastest but not by much. XP works perfectly and very close to Linux and the fact that Vista runs as well as it does at all it great. XP and Linux are very much on par for those of you mulling over which system to buy. The performance difference is negligible when you consider the superior device support XP has over Linux. Anyway, I think all three systems have their merits and detractions so please comment away on your thoughts. Please comment away on your thoughts. Earthling10@hotmail.com Thanks for watching.

8GB SSD Vs 120GB HDD Boot Speed Test On Linux Acer Netbook

Just to prove that it can be done, Ive installed a copy of Windows Vista Home Premium on the little Asus EEE PC 900. The specs are as follows: 900Mhz Celeron Mobile 1GB Ram 20GB Flash Hard drive The HDD is made up of a 4GB + 16GB module. The OS is installed on the 16GB module. Its a little slow as expected but for music, DVDs, photos, MS Office and the Internet its fine. It wont do high end PC tasks but that is to be expected. The machine will run TV tuners, synchronise with devices with Windows drivers such as PDAs, cell phones, ipods, web cams, etc that the Linux based machine may not. Since I had to buy a copy of Windows anyway and Vista and Xp were the same price, I decided to opt of Vista for this machine. Its not as smooth as XP but at least now you have the choice of buying a Linux, XP or Vista driven system. Lets not forget that the EEE PC 900 is a nice step up from a PDA and a step below a budget laptop so in that sense if you need anything more than an EEE PC can do then you're better off buying a standard laptop. If you want to write a note, edit an office file, listen to music, watch a movie clip, browse the 'proper' internet then buy a linux or Xp based system. If you want a little more future proofing and then this may be a better option. I'd still reccomend you add an extra GB of ram (this only has 1GB) and install a bigger SD card to get the most out of it. Please comment away on your thoughts. Win XP vs. Win Vista Home Premium -- 3D Mark 2003 Benchmark test. It's a miracle that Windows XP Home Edition runs as good as it does on the successor of the original EEE PC 701. Now we can push the limits of this new system by installing Vista Home Premium retail (unmodified or optimised). This is an OS that even most larger computers struggle to run. Many people are rightly amazed that a system slightly lager than a standard DVD box with some of the lowest specifications available on the market can even run Vista at all let alone in a usable form. But how does this system compare to XP? Surely it wouldnt stand a chance? Well Ive set up two identical systems running XP and Vista side by side and ran 3D Mark 2003 to test these machines to the max. The results may surprise you. You will need to see it to believe it. Left System: EEE PC 900 900Mhz Celeron Mobile ULV Intel GMA 900 GPU Windows XP Home Edition 1GB 400Mhz Ram 20GB internal SD HDD Right System: EEE PC 900 900Mhz Celeron Mobile ULV Intel GMA 900 GPU Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 1GB 400Mhz Ram 20GB internal SD HDD Test 1: Boot test Notice the fast boot speed of the Windows XP system. The Windows Vista System is actually not so far behind. You'll notice the same speed differential between two identical high spec PC systems. Conclusion: EEE PC 900 can boot up a standard retail copy of Vista Home Premium without a hitch. Test 2: 3D Mark 2003 The XP system loads this program faultlessly and quickly. The Vista ...

Ubuntu 8.04 running on the EEE PC 900 video as requested. This is the big boy's Linux for those who were unsatisfied with the Fisher Price style Xandros software suite. Judging by its performance its no surprise Asus went for Xandros as this system pushes the EEE PC almost as hard as Vista did. All the eye candy was turned up on this install so with the Xubuntu script and other optimisations, this OS should run even smoother. I tried to show as many features and programs as possible in the 10 minute clip. Whether you love it or hate it, please rate and add your comments to the video. Thanks for watching! A quick demo of the EEE PC 900 Multi touch function in action on a variety of commonly used programs with a running commentary. It's similar to how the Macbook Air and the iPhone work. I've made a comparison with the iPhone to show the differences between the implementations. This function is already built into the EEE PC so doesn't require any additional software or set up in software. If you already have a system and were not aware of this function, you may want to try this out on your own program by following the instructions in this video. Thanks for watching.
