Lenovo W520 review

Lenovo has built itself a strong corner in the business laptop market with its popular ThinkPad range. The ThinkPad W520 is a highly powerful business machine crammed with features, and is perfect for mobile professionals that use resource-hungry software. The first thing we marvelled over was the ultra-bright 15.6-inch display. Images are supremely sharp thanks to the 1080p Full-HD resolution, making this a fine choice for design professionals. A matt TFT finish means it's immune to reflections, so you can comfortably use the ThinkPad wherever you travel. However, at 2.9kg this isn't the most mobile business laptop we've seen. You'll need a spacious briefcase or bag to carry it around and the three hours of battery life is merely average. Mobility may be flawed, but performance more than makes up for it. One of Intel's Core i7 2620M processors is on board, which will comfortably run the most intensive software for the foreseeable future. Multimedia performance is just as strong, with a dedicated Nvidia Quadro 1000M GPU handling graphics – perfect for editing HD video and playing the latest games.

Lenovo ThinkPad W520 Review

The Lenovo ThinkPad W520 is Lenovo's upgrade to the W510 mobile workstation notebook. This 15.6-inch notebook is powered by up to an Intel Core i7-2920XM processor and equipped with up to a discrete NVIDIA Quadro 2000M GPU, switchable to Intel HD integrated graphics. Like last year's model, the full HD (FHD) displays on the 1920 x 1080 resolution models have a 95% color gamut and a huey PRO color calibration system application. At the time of writing this review Lenovo has not yet announced if there will be an upcoming multi-touch screen option like last year or not. In this review we will measure the ThinkPad W520 up with other workstations in its class by putting every specific detail of it to the test. Read on to find out if this is the laptop for you.Our Lenovo ThinkPad W520 Specifications: Build and DesignThinkPad workstations have always been known to be top-of-the-line, updated systems in terms of performance, FHD display, build quality, battery and power consumption, and carry a host of features such as the Fingerprint Reader, nice upgrade options, and a great port selection. Lenovo ThinkPad W520 Review

If your job requires heavy-duty processing power and you're willing to pay top dollar, you should look for a mobile workstation like the Lenovo ThinkPad W520. This 15.6-inch laptop promises performance that's on a par with or exceeds the most powerful desktop PC money can buy, with options such as a full HD screen, quad-core Core i7 CPU, high-octane Nvidia Quadro graphics, and a dedicated color calibrator. But is this pricey machine, which carries a whopping $2,969 price as configured, worth the investment? The ThinkPad W520 sports the same, traditional black ThinkPad aesthetic we've come to expect over the years. Underneath a soft-touch raven black lid, you'll find a typical all-black ThinkPad deck with a light blue Enter key on an otherwise black keyboard. The bright red TrackPoint that sits in between the G and H keys on the keyboard makes the boldest statement on this minimalist design. However, the green lights that illuminate the power, volume up/down, and microphone mute buttons are a welcome touch. At 14.7 x 9.7 x 1.4-inches and 6.2 pounds, the ThinkPad W520 isn't the thinnest or lightest 15.6-inch notebook on the market, but, considering the notebooks' heavy duty components, it's surprisingly portable.
