Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 91z 7075

I don't normally write about desktops for business users, but the Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 91z has enough design and performance appeal to draw in home office workers, or even general consumers looking for a relatively clean-looking Windows all-in-one. This system is missing some common consumer-oriented bells and whistles; no surprise given its business leanings. For those looking for a no-frills all-in-one that is both fast and affordable, the ThinkCentre Edge 91z offers a reasonable alternative to traditional consumer PCs. Just note that other vendors offer all-in-ones with better-rounded configurations for just a few dollars more. The ThinkCentre Edge 91z's design is not on a par with that of Apple's iMac, HP's TouchSmart 600 line, or Samsung's Series 7 all-in-one, but the Lenovo's clean-lined shape and glossy, black plastic sheen give it an air of professionalism. You'll find no extraneous accent plastic or other distracting or arbitrary exterior highlights. The plastic feet on the front of the system look tacked on, but otherwise, this system has more visual appeal than many other all-in-ones. Its lack of a touch screen also makes the ThinkCentre Edge 91z an outlier among midrange all-in-ones.

Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 91z

Lenovo's ThinkCentre Edge M91z is a stylish all-in-one designed for business users. The machine boasts a sleek, edge-to-edge glass screen, and excellent overall performance. It's not a high-end machine, so you do give up some features--namely fancy multimedia features such as a Blu-ray disc drive and a discrete graphics card--but it should be fine for business users who are looking for something a little prettier than the typical desktop. Our review model, priced at $900, comes packed with a Core i5-2400S processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard drive. These are low-end specs--for example, there's no discrete graphics card, but Lenovo does give you the option of adding an AMD Radeon card. Our model also has a DVD burner, built-in Wi-Fi, and runs a 64-bit version of Windows 7 Professional. But don't let these specs fool you--the ThinkCentre Edge M91z has plenty of power for your business needs. In PCWorld's Worldbench 6 benchmark tests, the M91z performed very well with a score of 132--just one point behind our current top-rated budget all-in-one PC, the Cybernet iOne H5. At $1332 the business-oriented iOne H5 is more expensive than the M91z, but it also boasts a Core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM.

Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 91z

The Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 91z ($1,386 direct) is the company's latest all-in-one desktop designed for the SMB market, and as such it's less flashy than Lenovo's IdeaCentre consumer line. That isn't to say it's not attractive: Its black glossy minimalist design will attract design-conscious business users and owners. The system's interior components are top-notch as well, with a quad-core Intel Core i7-2600S processor, 8GB of memory, and enough power to motor through just about any office task you throw at it, including mid-level graphics tasks. It is a serious competitor to the class-leading Apple iMac 21.5-inch, and would fit well in an office that like the look of Apple products, but needs to standardize on Windows 7. The Edge 91z's looks are a lot simpler - not quite as fancy as the Lenovo IdeaCentre B520 ($1,799 list, 4 stars) - with a seamless front face all the way from the top with its embossed webcam to the two removable feet on the bottom of the unit. The two feet give the user an open space below the screen to stow a keyboard under the system. In the more entertainment-oriented Lenovo B520, the speaker bar blocks keyboard storage.
