If you have not fully embraced Intel's Ultrabooks you really should. They have been what power users like me have been wanting for quite a long time. A sleek and slim laptop that is powerful enough to do all of our daily tasks and still have a good battery life. Today we are taking a look at one of Lenovo's latest Ultrabooks in their IdeaPad U410. This Ultrabook features a sleek colored aluminum chassis, an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory and one of the most comfortable keyboards that I've ever used! Is this the perfect Ultrabook for you? Read on as we take a look. We received the U410 as if we would have purchased it online so the packaging is not much to write home about. Just a normal laptop box that is not much larger than the unit itself. On the side there is a list of specifications. To give you a good idea of how the IdeaPad U410 comes and for a brief overview check out the video below When you first take the U410 out of the box the first thing you are going to notice is the vibrant colors of the lid and bottom of the Ultrabook. We received the Ruby Red version of the U410, but it also comes in Sapphire Blue and Graphite Grey. Like most Lenovo laptops all you have on the lid is a small Lenovo logo in the top corner. You will notice the rounded edges on the U410, which I think gives it a good look.
New models are arriving left, right and centre in the world of super-portable laptops. Some ultrabooks hope to hook you on their looks, while others flex their muscles to catch your eye. Design was clearly down Lenovo's priority list for the IdeaPad U410, as it's stripped away the style to focus on providing decent performance. My review model came with the latest Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 750GB hard drive. It's available to buy now for £700. If you're after the sort of bright patterns and garish colours usually found on laptops in teenage girls' bedrooms, the U410 isn't going to be the machine for you. It offers a toned down, simple design that's likely to appeal if you'd rather eye up the quarterly reports than gossip with Chantelle about Jade's secret you heard in class today. The case design is a sensible, sedate, all-grey snooze-fest. The lid is an all-grey affair that's only broken by the Lenovo logo in the top corner. There's no extra pattern going on, nor is there any kind of texture so it's pretty boring, but I still think it has a certain appeal. It's not really got the sort of style that will turn heads at that fancy coffee place near your office, but its sensible looks won't look out of place at a conference.
After a slow start, consumers are now inundated with an embarrassment of Ultrabook choices. The latest offering is the Lenovo IdeaPad U410, a handsome 14-inch system wrapped in a brilliant red aluminum chassis. Although it starts at $759, our $799 configuration combines a Core i5 Intel Ivy Bridge processor with discrete Nvidia graphics. You also get Lenovo's AccuType keyboard and Dolby-powered stereo speakers. But with so many affordable Ultrabooks hitting the market, how does this one stack up?Click to EnlargeWith its Ruby Red aluminum chassis, the IdeaPad U410 is certainly a stunner. Employing Lenovo's Loop design, the U410 has gently rounded edges and an easy-to-open lid. A chrome Lenovo insignia graces the top right corner. Those looking for something more subdued can choose a Granite Gray lid, while the Aqua Blue model has just as much personality. The notebook's silver interior, complete with a large touchpad and recessed black keyboard, is reminiscent of a MacBook Pro.The only other embellishment is a spun-metal backlit power button in the top left corner.
Lenovo has launched its latest line of IdeaPads, and they're targeted directly at the mainstream consumer. The Lenovo IdeaPad U410 comes with an eye-catching colored aluminum chassis – we received one in Sapphire Blue, but the U410 is also available in Graphite Grey and Ruby Red - but is this laptop all about looks, or does it have the power under the hood to still get stuff done? Read on to find out. Lenovo's new IdeaPad line comes with a variety of hardware that's meant to appeal with a broad range of consumers. The model we received is equipped with an Intel Core i5-3317U clocked at 1.7 Ghz, but other models that make use of a Core i3 or a Core i7 are available as well. Complete with Intel's freshly-launched Ivy Bridge microarchitecture, the Core i5 will be able to handle most anything the mainstream consumer will need to do with the U410, and when coupled with the 8 gigs of RAM that comes installed, you have a laptop that's capable of running surprisingly fast. The HDD/SSD hybrid setup does its part to keep things moving along at a fast pace, allowing for shorter boot and wake up times than you're probably used to with other laptops. The model we received came with a 500GB HDD, but the U410 has options up to 1TB.
Lenovo was one of the original players when the Ultrabook revolution kicked off late last year with its IdeaPad 300s and now, fresh for 2012, the Chinese manufacturer is back with a couple of more wallet-friendly slimline offerings in its U Series; the Lenovo IdeaPad U310 and the U410.Like the 300s, the IdeaPad U310 is a 13.3 inch Ultrabook, but it's its bigger-brother, the Lenovo IdeaPad U410 that we're focusing on here. The flagship machine of the IdeaPad U Series, the U410 is a 14-inch machine, ready to take on the likes of the HP Envy 6, the Samsung Series 5 Ultra, the Sony Vaio T13 and the Asus Zenbook Prime, for the 2012 Ultrabook heavyweight (or should that be lightweight?) championship. At 21mm thick, however, and with a weight of almost 2kg, the Lenovo IdeaPad U410 isn't likely to worry the likes of the Acer Aspire S5 or the Dell XPS 13 in the super-skinny stakes. But where the U410 does shine is with its value for money. The review model that we took for a spin; an Ivy Bridge i5 model boasting 6GB of RAM, discrete graphics from Nvidia and a healthy 750GB HDD, can be yours for a penny less than 700.
