We have collected 3 reviews of the LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0. Experts rate LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 8/10. Reviewsor.com helps you find reviews, best prices, user reviews of the LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 and LaCie External hard drives.
The LaCie Rikiki is one of the most compact—if not the most compact—of all 2.5" portable external hard drives of the kind. It also promises first-rate performances. With a huge storage capacity of 1 TB (although a 500 GB version is available too) and a USB 3.0 interface, data transfer should be pretty zippy. The casing's brushed aluminium finish is stylish, sturdy and as impressive as ever, even if the firm's Rugged-series drives are designed for greater shock-resistance. Another good thing is that the USB cable that was way too short in the previous model (10 cm) has been made longer here for easier connection. It's now just over 60 cm long. The USB 3.0 interface brings a real boost to this external HDD, which gives top-notch performances. With read speeds reaching 112 MBps and write speeds at 116 MBps, it has no trouble taking the top spot in our external hard drive rankings, edging ahead of the The Rikiki is one of the smallest external hard drives on the market right now. Measuring 7.5 x 1.2 x 12 cm (108 cm3) and weighing 176 g, it's the smallest portable external HDD we've tested yet.
Small and sturdy, the LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 drive comes with a wealth of software, and it includes online backup, to boot. But do the transfer speeds make this $99.99 aluminum-clad 1TB drive worth the investment?Despite having an aluminum enclosure, the LaCie Rikiki was the lightest USB 3.0 drive we tested. At just 7.1 ounces, it was lighter than the plastic 7.2-ounce Western Digital My Passport Essential and less than half as hefty as the 14.4-ounce Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive. While the aluminum enclosure feels solid and seems capable of withstanding some abuse, the drive is not rated for 7-foot drops like the Iomega drive.Setting up the LaCie is easy but a little time-consuming. First, you install the local backup software, called Genie Backup Assistant 8.0. Of the apps included with USB 3.0 drives we've tested, this program offered the most advanced features for choosing which files to archive; you can even selectively choose Windows settings files. The tree structure interface, while a bit dated, also worked well. However, we preferred the Western Digital backup software because it shows visual gauges as a backup progresses.
With USB 3.0 and portable storage becoming more and more prevalent and most importantly cheaper, the game changes to getting the most for your money. “Most”, though is a relative term. What do you want the most of? Storage? Speed? Best speed per price? Best storage per price? Or just simply looks? Regardless of what your reasoning behind the decision, it is always good to get the best bang for the buck. Lacie offers a relatively large capacity(500GB) portable hard drive with a USB 3.0 interface enclosed in an aluminum casing. Join me as I find out what are the limits of the drive and leave the decision up to you. The read speeds followed the usual pattern seen in hard drives. The fastest transfer speeds are exhibited on the outer edges of the drive while the slower one are exhibited when the spindle approaches the inside of the drive. The max, average, min are 86.5, 67.9, 41.5 respectively. While these numbers do not look very impressive when compared to their counterparts in a solid state device, it is important to know that these numbers still surpass the USB 2.0 standards and are perfectly acceptable as far as 2.5? hard drives go. The write test results were similar to those of the read test. The max, average, min scores were 88.5, 66.4, and 39.3 respectively. Interestingly enough, the Access Time for the write (6.86 ms) was several times faster than that of read (17 ms).
