Kingwin is a company we have not heard much from in the past year. Recently they have released a new series of power supplies called the Lazer Gold Series. These power supplies are available in 550W, 700W, 850W and 1000W sizes and are 80PLUS Gold certified meaning they will run at least 87% efficient between 20% and 100% load and 90% efficient at 50% load. These power supplies also feature support for the latest processors and graphics cards, an active PFC, modular cables and a 140mm blue LED fan. Today we will be taking a look at the 1000W version, let’s see if it performs up to our expectations. The Lazer Gold 1000W power supply comes in a nice colorful retail package. One the front of there is a picture of the power supply and the 80PLUS Gold, 3 year warranty, and Active PFC logos. On one side you have a list of specifications and on another you have a list of features. Opening the box up everything is nicely packed inside. Getting everything out you have Lazer Gold 1000W power supply, a bag of modular cables, power cable, mounting thumbscrews, and a user’s guide.
It is the final weekend of June, 2010, and here we are prospecting for gold again. Today's review sample is the Kingwin Lazer 1000W, the most powerful in a series of four Kingwin models that promise 80 Plus Gold level efficiency at modest prices. The last time I looked at Kingwin, it was way back in the latter months of 2009 when I load tested the 80 Plus Bronze Lazer 1000 watt unit. We'll have to find out what's changed to bring the line up from Bronze to Gold, and we will. Oh yes... we will. But first, we're going to look at a bunch of box and product pictures, as we always do. On this part of the box, we get all our marketing. I reckon you're all going to make me type this out, aren't you? Put down the squirt gun, sir, I was gonna do it anyway. But first, what is that I see there, amongst the fancy logos on this side of the box? Is that a three year warranty being advertised? Why, yes it is. Kingwin, I'd suggest extending that by a little bit. Your competition has you outclassed, there. Mostly pretty standard marketing stuff up there, yes? However, I would like to compliment Kingwin on knowing that the autorange voltage input is a direct benefit of the active PFC circuit.
