Iomega eGo Desktop Hard Drive, Mac Edition (2TB)

The time has finally come when enormous amounts of storage can be had without sacrificing a lot of money, or a lot of desk space. Desktop-class drives capable of holding hundreds of hours of video and several hundred thousand photos can now be purchased for very little. The Iomega eGo 2TB Desktop Hard Drive Mac Edition (2TB) ($185 Street) is just such a drive, packing huge storage and speedy transfer rates into a drive that is both attractive and affordable. Though not as small as more portable hard drives, like the pocket-friendly Toshiba 650GB External Hard Drive ($159.99 list, 4 stars), the eGo 2TB Desktop drive isn't much bigger than a paperback novel, measuring 7.3 by 5 by 1.5 inches (HWD). Thanks to the included stand, you will have the option of setting up your drive either lying flat or up on one edge to minimize the footprint on your desk. Regardless of how you set up the drive, it won't take up too much space. The drive looks good, but not terribly different from the other desktop drives you'll see. The metal and plastic enclosure is a shade of silver-grey that will compliment your Mac computer, and has been used on every Mac-specific hard drive in recent years, like the Editors' Choice Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II ($429.99 list, 4.5 stars).
