Before the arrival of Sony's Ericsson's new Xperia Mini, the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro were an odd little couple, launching in mid-2010 with Android 1.6 and a bespoke and heavily-customised user interface on top. They weren't amazingly powerful phones and their 2.55" screens were shockingly small - but Sony Ericsson did a good job of maximising the available space with its corner-based interface. The same system has returned in 2011's updates, albeit improved thanks to Sony Ericsson's developers having another year to fiddle with the interface and add more new layers of social integration. We've got some real-life footage of ACTUAL people using the phone - check it out if these grouped-together letters are too much:The new Xperia Mini is available SIM-free for just over the £200 mark, with...

Outwardly, there's not a huge amount of difference between many of Kimber's speaker cables. They tend to use multiple, individually insulated conductors twisted together in a special weave, with low-loss insulation. In the case of the 4PR reviewed here, there are four conductors per side and insulation is simply polythene – a recipe apparently unchanged since the earliest days of Hi-Fi Choice back in the 1970s! This is the cheapest of Kimber's speaker cables and dearer models have fancier materials, including 'vari-strand' conductors and Teflon insulation. The basic electrical characteristics are very similar, though and one might expect performance not to vary vastly. Termination is a tiresome job and distributor Russ Andrews tends to sell preterminated cable sets, fitted with simple, b...

Welcome to the modern consumer landscape, one where our everyday environment is literally littered with plastic bags. We cannot escape them, we cannot stop using them. What’s to be done? An inventor in Japan by the name of Akinori Ito has offered up an invention that takes these bags and turns them into fuel. How could this possibly be done? Consider the makeup of the bags: oil and ink. Is it possible to revert these bags back down to their elements, elements that can be reused for all manner of fuel-sucking machines. All it takes is heat! What Ito’s invention does is hold an amount of bags inside itself, head them up to great temperatures, trap the vapors that result, and channels the vapors through a system of pipes and water chambers. Once these vapors are channeled, they&...

In 2003, ESPN debuted Playmakers, a gridiron soap opera about a fictitious professional football team that dealt with many of the dirty off-the-field issues commonly seen in the world of sports. Critics and viewers alike gravitated to the show, making it the third-most popular program on ESPN. Not everyone was happy with the success. The NFL disliked the show due to its portrayal of professional players as drug addicts, wife beaters, and closeted homosexuals. With the renewal of the Sunday Night Football contract on the horizon, ESPN caved to pressure from the overbearing league and cancelled the show. Sports game developers are all too familiar with this kind of league pressure. Many leagues review the content that goes into each game, which might keep, for example, EA Tiburon from addin...
