HP Mini 210 HD Review

The Mini 210 HD is the latest netbook from HP, offering a full 720P-compatible 1366x768 resolution on a compact 10.1-inch display. This model includes the 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 processor standard-with the faster 1.83GHz N475 for $25 more-as well as Intel GMA 3150 integrated graphics. In this review we see how well this netbook holds up against the competition and if you should consider this over a slightly more powerful CULV notebook.BUY the Mini 210-1080nr, Pacific BlueTigerDirect $399.99OfficeMax $329.49Buydig.com $359.95see all pricing for the Mini 210-1080nr, Pacific BlueOur HP Mini 210 HD Specifications: Build and DesignThe new design of the HP Mini really helps to enhance its looks and raise the expectation that this netbook isn't a toy but rather a full-fledged designer notebook. The new Mini uses painted panels for the screen cover and bottom cover, adding a touch of color to each model. Compared to normal designs that leave the bottom with bland, unfinished black plastic, this really helps in the looks department. The interior was also given a facelift, featuring a flush-mount Synaptics touchpad with integrated buttons.

HP Mini 210 HD Edition Review

We review HP's Mini 210 HD Edition netbook which offers a sleek finish, solid feel, and crisp display, but its awful touchpad leaves a lasting impression. HP's Mini 210 should be boring. Like the Ford Fiesta of the PC world, it's a point-A-to-B budget box from a well-known manufacturer not particularly well known for taking risks. But also like its automotive doppelganger, the Mini 210 yields some unforeseen surprises. Besides styling that breaks the monotony of countless Taiwanese clones, it sports an exceptionally high resolution display, optional Broadcom video decoder chip, and a touchpad that emulates Apple's MacBooks. As we found out, that last point proves to be a major - debatably fatal - stumbling block for the Mini 210, but buyers who can learn to live with the mind-bogglingly-bad pad, or spring for a wireless mouse, can learn to cope with an otherwise very well put together netbook.Like most machines in this class, the Mini 210 runs Intel's popular Atom processor, with the base model picking up a 1.66GHz N455. Buyers who want multimedia performance can spec a machine with the faster 1.8GHz Atom and Broadcom's Crystal HD Video accelerator for an extra $40.

HP Mini 210 HD

We've always been more partial to the Netbooks put out by HP's business side (such as the Mini 5102), but budget-conscious buyers can get largely similar systems from HP's consumer side with lower starting prices. The consumer lineup, previously anchored by the Mini 110, has gotten a modest makeover in 2010, morphing into the Mini 210. New to this version are Intel's latest Atom N450 CPU and optional lid colors. Most importantly, the awkward side-anchored mouse buttons have been moved to a more traditional spot below the touch pad, fixing one of the major annoyances of the Mini 110. There's also an option for the Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator, which allows HD video playback (but is more of a mixed bag for streaming online HD video). With its excellent keyboard and touch pad, the Mini 210 is one of the nicer-looking overall Netbook packages available. The base $299 version includes the same hardware you'd find on competing $299 Netbooks from Dell, Acer, or Asus (so it's largely a matter of personal aesthetic preference), and this $384 configuration includes the HD video accelerator and a higher-definition 1,366x768-pixel display, making it a good deal.
