Gigabyte MA-785GPMT-UD2H Motherboard

Gigabyte is one of the biggest names in the computer component business, with decades of experience in producing top-notch motherboards, graphics cards, and other PC components. This new board, the MA-785GPMT-UD2H, is marketed primarily as the core of a Home Theater PC, but with enough overhead to work fairly well as the core of a compact LAN gaming rig as well. Before we dive into the testing though, let’s take a look at what Gigabyte have to say about this product. The BIOS is very well laid-out, with all of the options grouped together in fairly logical fashion. The M.I.B. Intelligent Tweaker menu contains the tools for overclocking, with adjustment available for every aspect of the core system, from CPU to motherboard to even VGA, if you’re using an ATI graphics card. In all the menus, options are clearly and concisely labeled, with similarly well-written explanations in the help pane to the right. No broken or fractured English here, and most operations won’t even require a glance at the manual. The setup DVD has drivers to get you going and utilities to adjust things on the fly, along with a few bits of bundleware.

AMD 785G Chipset Launch: ASUS and Gigabyte

Gigabyte also has several different 785G-based motherboards ready for the launch today. We have two of them in our labs, the ATX Gigabyte GA-MA785G-UD3H and the mATX Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H. The two boards are similar overall but differ in a few key areas. First, let's take a closer look at the mATX GA-MA785GMT-UD2H. The Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H, the smaller of the two Gigabyte boards we have, is actually most similar to the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO we just checked out in the previous pages. Just like the ASUS, the GA-MA785GMT-UD2H is packed with features including support for Hybrid CrossFire, DDR3 support and integrated 128MB SidePort memory. The most obvious difference between the two boards is the form factor, where the Gigabyte is a compact mATX board. Taking a look at the specification sheet, you'll notice that the GA-MA785GMT-UD2H is nearly functionally identical to the ASUS, except that its smaller mATX frame means it has less expansion slots and is most noticeably missing the second PCI-E slot.
