Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H review

AMD doesn't make the fastest PC processors on planet Earth. We can all agree on that. But in terms of bang for your British buck, the world's second-string CPU maker still has plenty to offer. Put simply, you get a lot for your money if you go with an AMD platform. Take this Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H microATX motherboard. It's based on AMD's latest 880G integrated chipset and also sports the SB850 southbridge chip. That means you not only get a very strong 2D video feature set including AMD's Avivo HD hardware video acceleration. There's also plenty of storage bandwidth on offer in the form of five SATA 6Gbps ports. The pair of USB 3.0 sockets are thoroughly welcome, too. The Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H is also an intriguing option for those who want high performance and low power consumption in a single package. Thanks to CrossFireX support, it's possible to switch between integrated and discrete graphics on the fly. Normally, we associate AMD systems with lower overall system costs. Feature for feature, that just about holds true when comparing Gigabyte's 880GMAUD2H with an Intel board like the MSI H55M-ED55.

Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H, AMD X3 445 CPU

It is not every day I get a chance to check out a new CPU. And this week, I got a chance to look at not one, but two new CPU types. One of these new CPU's I played with was an AMD TRI Core CPU called the AM3 445 CPU. When we get new CPU's we also have to have the latest motherboard to support our brand spanking new CPU. The motherboard we at Bjorn3D.com are going to be including is Gigabyte's 880GMA-UD2H micro ATX motherboard. In true Dragon style, we over here at Bjorn3D.com are going to pair these two components up, throw on a proven video card, in this case that will be a Sapphire 5870 Vapor X (Review is located HERE); then heat things up a bit in the \"Dungeon” and see how these two perform. The Gigabyte 880GMA-UD2H motherboard we at Bjorn3D.com will be tormenting. The CPU we will be installing into the 880GMA-UD2H motherboard. This is an AMD AM3 socket TRI Core 445 CPU. Since this motherboard did not come with a box, I will skip that portion and jump right into the overview of this great little motherboard. Giving this micro-ATX type of motherboard a quick look over, it appears that this motherboard does have a fairly decent layout. The only thing I am concerned with are the five SATA ports.
