While a large number of aftermarket PC products are targeted at the high-end performance subset of computer enthusiasts, the quiet/silent PC folks are somewhat under represented. While it's no easy task to choose just the right parts for, say a maximum effort gaming machine, there is a lot of hardware out there to choose from. Silent PC aficionados don't have this luxury, and searching for components with acceptable acoustic properties can be a frustrating experience. Recently, FSP Group has come out with the Zen series of fanless power supplies that will be of great interest to the silent computing community. FSP has an enviable reputation among enthusiasts for building quality power supplies and marketing them at a fair price. The Zen series is offered in 300- and 400-watt versions and they've sent the Zen 400 to us for evaluation. With a conservative 400-watt rating and two +12V rails of 14 and 13 amps respectively, the Zen 400 is a more than capable power supply for most applications, but don't expect to run a couple of high end graphics cards with it. It does have a PCI-E 6-pin connector, and should support most cards that will accept the native connector.
