Fractal Design Core 3000 review
We checked out Fractal Design's Define Mini a couple of months back, and now we have another of its minimalist designs sitting on the test bench. The Core 3000 is the first in a new range of budget cases from the award-winning Swedish manufacturer. This series of chassis have been designed to offer Fractal Design's usual design features, cooling performance and build quality, but at a lower price point than its other enclosure line-ups. Like most of Fractal Design's cases, the Core 3000 doesn't shout about its presence. Its clean, almost basic looking design is easily overlooked as just another standard, boring box. That's until you look at the rear of the case, where the sober black finish is broken by the white expansion plates and blades of the rear fan. Once you open it up and get inside, the build quality, design features and attention to detail prove that this no basic budget case. Value added Despite carrying that value tag, the Core 3000 still retains many of the usual Fractal Design features. Most obviously the tool-free design, removable drive cages and plenty of cooling fan mounts. The cable management isn't as good as that of the Define Mini or any other of the more expensive cases. For storage purposes there are two 5.25-inch drive bays and six 3.5-inch bays, with the latter being split between two drive cages.
Fractal Design Core 3000 Mid Tower Case Review
Fractal Design isn’t a company known by many, but has been becoming more popular over the past year or so. This Swedish company offers a wide variety of cases, ranging from $30 to $170. Today we’ll be looking at one of the lower end models, the Core 3000. The Core 3000 comes equipped with three fans and room for many more as well as a very simple tool-free installation. Read on further to see what else this case has in store. Features Simple yet elegant front panel with mesh and filter Optimized for performance with multiple cooling options A total of 7(!) fan slots (1x 120mm + 1x 140mm in front, 2x 120/140mm in top, 1x 120mm in bottom, 1x 120mm in rear, 1x 120/140mm in side panel) Three fans included (1x 140mm in front, 1x 120mm in rear and 1x 140mm in top) 6x white painted HDD trays, with silicone mounting Upper HDD cage is removable and rotatable Easily removable front panel with clip on fan slots The Fractal Design Core 3000 comes packaged in a plain cardboard box. The cardboard quality isn’t the greatest, but it seems Fractal Design has made some effort to improve the look of the packaging by adding some blue in with the basic black text and diagrams.
Fractal Design Core 3000 Review
Much like another Fractal Design case we reviewed recently, the Arc Midi, the Fractal Design Core 3000 is a simple and effective case, made all the more enticing by its affordability and ease of use. It’s always with a little apprehension that we step into the sub-100-dollar case category; so we’re surprised and happy to report that the Core 3000 is a very solid contender for you budget builders. Calling the Core 3000 a mid-tower chassis would be technically correct, though at 17 inches tall by 19 inches deep by 8 inches wide, it’s on the smaller side of the spectrum. This becomes apparent when building into the chassis—our test build was a little more difficult than normal due to the limited space inside. Our test bed’s abnormally large heatsink made it damn near impossible to get the 8-pin power connector connected, though we could have mounted the heatsink afterwards, as the motherboard tray has a large CPU backplane cutout. As in many cases, the top hard drive cage is removable to accommodate long GPUs—we had to remove it to fit an 11-inch GTX 590. Though the case is cramped inside, we were still able to utilize the three backplane cutouts for cable organization, though getting slightly larger power supply cables through them was a bit of a hassle.
