Corsair H100 Review

liquid-cooling loop! Hooray! Corsair's H100 is its fifth liquid cooler; after two with Asetek, the company has put out three with CoolIT. The H60 is your standard 120mm radiator-with-single-fan, the H80 is the double-thick double-fan version, and the H100, the first Corsair liquid-cooler to support LGA2011, is its first cooler with a 240mm radiator. The H100's radiator is around an inch thick and 10.8 inches long and fits in any case that can accommodate a 240mm radiator, though some cases may not have the vertical clearance to mount the fans inside the case. The pump/heat exchange unit is square, and very slightly taller than Asetek's. It contains four 4-pin PWM headers to control the radiator fans, as well as a connector for Corsair's Link system control software/hardware combo (sold separately). There's also a three-speed fan-control button on top of the pump. The pump unit itself has a 3-pin motherboard fan connector and a 2-pin Molex for power. The cooler unit mount is simple; four double-sided thumbscrews mount to the unified backplate, the brackets at the corners of the pump unit slide onto those, and more thumbscrews secure them in place.

Corsair H100 Self-Contained Liquid CPU Cooler Review

So, who wants to have more all-in-one liquid cooling fun? I know I do! On the review table today is Corsair's brand-new addition to the Hydro line up, the beefy H100. This marks the third product released in conjunction with Canada-based CoolIT Systems, which has also produced the very popular H60 and H80 coolers. It's hard to believe that the Hydro series kicked off in 2009 with the Asetek-inspired H50. Since then, we've been lucky enough to review all of the Hydro models and have been left more impressed each time. The H80 currently holds the cooling crown in our temperature database so it'll be interesting to see how this newest offering scales in comparison. The H100 is the stretch limo, double-wide trailer, Super Big Gulp of the Hydro series. It features all of what made the H80 a winner but with a larger radiator and the potential for a more robust cooling setup. It's also ready to go starting with AM2 and LGA775 systems, all the way up to what is on the market today as well as the upcoming LGA2011 socket. Enough talk. It's time to find out if bigger really is better. The block and pump are contained in a low-profile housing that sits over top of the CPU.

Corsair H100 Liquid CPU Cooler review

Should you be about to spend nearly £80 on a cooler, you'd better live somewhere incredibly hot, or make damn sure that you're going to overclock the pins off your CPU. Let's assume you are, because this Corsair H100 liquid cooling kit is a wet dream for those who really need it. Small, split-flow manifold liquid cooling kits such as the H100 have been around for a couple of years now. They were pioneered by CoolIT, which is the company behind the latest Corsair liquid chillers. Fitting your own water cooler is quite a challenge, and in many ways a kit such as the H100 takes away that hard work. Considering that the H100 is backwards-compatible to Intel LGA 775 and AMD AM2 sockets, Corsair has designed a refreshingly easy fitting for each socket type. We've seen some otherwise excellent liquid coolers ruined by improbably complicated bracket designs – Antec Kuhler series, we're looking at you. There are no such dramas with this Corsair number. It's the easiest to fit liquid cooler we've come across. You might find the 240mm radiator a bit trickier to fit. In fact, you might find it impossible if your case doesn't have mountings for it. Corsair is being a bit devious here, because your best bet for compatibility is to use one of its cases.

Corsair Hydro Series H100 Review

Corsair's Hydro Series self-contained liquid cooling solutions have hit the mark and filled a void in the market. While the Corsair Hydro Series was not the first to market, it has easily gained the most traction with consumers due to the marketing and the Corsair brand identity. CooliT and Asetek have been there and have actually partnered with Corsair on the Hydro Series build-ups — Asetek on the H50 and H70, with CooliT on the H60, H80 and now H100. The Hydro Series H50 and H70 were the first of the series, offering the consumer significant improvements over the stock cooling solutions from both AMD and Intel. Even though fully capable of handling mild overclocks, the popularity of the Hydro series needed to address the user looking for a bit more. Not everyone has the ability to handle the financial commitment or confidence to build a custom liquid cooling system, but just about anyone can handle the lower financials of the Hydro series and can install a pre-built, pre-filled liquid cooling solution. The popularity of this kind of solution proves this, as enthusiasts are always looking for a better mousetrap when it comes to cooling performance and overclocking.
