Reviews: Internal Hard Drives

The Corsair Force Series is yet one more range among those SSDs built around the SandForce SF-1222 memory controller. Will it offer the same performance levels as the OCZ Vertex 2 and Mach Xtreme Technology MX-DS? Everything's there on paper to make you believe you'll get the same performance levels as these other two top dogs: an SATA-2 interface at 3 Gbps and Micron memory. No USB interface has been built in to this SSD's casing, which doesn't facilitate copying data from an old drive you're replacing. We tested the 60 GB version, the F60 then, with the full technical name of CSSD-F60GB2. Pure performance As of the first test carried out with CrystalDiskMark, we could see that the read performances were up there with the best. The write speeds, however, topped out at 66 MB/s: Although surprising, these results are confirmed by the AS-SSD test: Access times are a little down on the best SSDs but are still very rapid in comparison to HDDs: Apart from certain specific transfers of large files, the Corsair F60's performance in practice shouldn't disappoint.
