Corsair Carbide 400R Mid Tower Case Review

Today we’ll be checking out one of Corsairs latest cases, the Carbide 400R. Most people know Corsair for their memory products, but in recent years they have converted over to Cases and other products. Today I’ll be checking out my first Corsair case. It includes support of up to 10 fans, future technologies and large components. Its sleek design not only looks good, but is functional as well, which is great for cable management and cooling. Read on further to see what else this case has in store for under $100. Special thanks to Corsair for providing us with the Carbide 400R Mid Tower Case to review. The Carbide Series shares vital DNA with the award-winning Corsair Obsidian and Graphite Series. They’re acclaimed for their ease of use and performance-oriented engineering, and this philosophy is abundant in the design of the Carbide Series. Future-Ready. Support for USB 3.0 and 2.5” SSDs is built-in. Two USB 3.0 connectors are provided on the front panel and connect directly to motherboards with compatible USB 3.0 headers. Integrated SSD support lets you install 2.5” solid-state drives in any of the hard drive bays, without having to deal with adapters. Easy access.

Corsair Carbide 400R review

Including features normally associated with expensive chassis on sub-£150 cases is Corsair's goal with the Carbide series. The newly launched Corsair Carbide 400R is the little brother of the more expensive Corsair Carbide 500R, released at the same time.Although Corsair is a company usually associated with memory and PSUs, since branching out to PC cases it had built a solid reputation – one it hopes to build upon with the Corsair Carbide 400R. This mid-sized tower is aimed at PC enthusiasts who are keen on installing the best hardware money can buy, but is priced at an affordable level, unlike the more expensive Corsair Obsidian 700D chassis. Price is the big selling point of the Carbide 400R, and Corsair promises a lot for just £80. But does the company deliver on its promises, or have too many corners been cut when designing the Corsair Carbide 400R in pursuit of an attractive price point?Unlike some of its more ostentatious rivals, the Corsair Carbide 400R sports a relatively straight-laced design. Next to more expensive models it might look rather plain, but there are options to 'pimp out' the chassis if understated isn't your style, such as a lighting toggle switch at the top of the case for lighting kits. But what's really important is what's inside the case – or, we should say, what can be inside the case.

Corsair Carbide 400R Mid-Tower Chassis Review

It's time to take a look at another Corsair case - but it might not be what you expect. Up to now, Corsair has only offered higher-end cases that tend to carry a price-premium (which is justified more often than not), but the model we're looking at today is different. A few months ago, at Computex in Taiwan, Corsair announced the launch of the entry-level Carbide series of cases. The lowest-priced offering, the 400R, is the only case in the company's portfolio to break the sub-$100 mark, and we just so happen to have one on the review table today. It claims to have all of the functionality of existing cases, but will allow users to keep a little extra cash in their wallet. It may not have a fancy brushed aluminum front panel or a built-in fan controller, but I can't wait to have a look and see if this new low-priced option offers more than the price tag indicates. The construction of the 400R is fairly typical with a black steel frame and panels that match the plastic accents. Able to hold micro-ATX and ATX motherboards, it measures 20.5" long, 19.8" high and tips the scale at around 15.5 lbs when empty. Most of the front panel is taken up by the metal mesh covering that spans the four 5.25" drive bays near the top and runs all the way to the bottom where it hides two 120mm white LED fans.

Corsair Carbide Series 400R Review

When it comes to shopping for a new case, the myriad of available choices and features is always incredibly expansive. While some cases can be obtained for as little as $30 or $40, others require upwards of $300 and $400 for something that, in general, accomplishes the same task. Of course, the price premium usually results in larger sizes, better build quality, additional features, ease of use, or other bells and whistles. In the last few years, Corsair has delved into producing a large variety of computer components – starting with power supplies, they have also moved towards cases and SSDs. I can't particularly speak for Corsair's power supplies or SSDs, but I have had positive experiences with their computer cases – recently, I've reviewed Corsair's Obsidian Series 650D and Graphite Series 600T. While both cases were in the category of mid-towers, their size was teetering on the verge of being standard full-towers. Overall, I enjoyed testing both of those cases, so I am excited to take a look at another recent development from Corsair, the Carbide Series 400R – a mid-tower case that is much smaller than their previous products. The Corsair Carbide Series 400R shares a lot of the same features as its more expensive counterparts, but is concentrated into a smaller package at a cheaper cost for the buyer.
