Cooler master hyper 212 evo cpu cooler review
It seems like there has always been a Hyper. I don't know exactly when Cooler Master unleashed their first Hyper CPU cooler, but I do know that it was early on in my PC enthusiast days and I wanted one badly. Unfortunately, with only a very lame store-bought mini-tower and Celeron processor, I didn't have the need, space or money for a Hyper. Cooler Master, along with their Hyper line of coolers has grown up along with the PC aftermarket and with top shelf offerings in the chassis and cooling departments, they've built quite a reputation. The good folks at Cooler Master have sent an example of their latest Hyper, the 212 EVO for evaluation here in the Tweaknews lab, and I'm excited to see how it performs. As the name suggests, this cooler is the next step in the evolution of the wildly popular 212 series. Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity to review the original so a direct comparison won't be possible, but I've used a few Hyper models and the Evo has some big shoes to fill. Let's see how it stacks up. Cooler Master was founded with the mission of providing the industry's best thermal solutions.

Frequent Maximum PC readers will have noticed our love affair with Cooler Master’s Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler. The 212 Plus came out of nowhere and captured our hearts—and a spot on our Best of the Best list—with its excellent cooling power and rock-bottom $30 price tag way back in 2009. It’s not the best CPU cooler we’ve tested, but we’ve installed it in virtually every stock-clocked PC we’ve built since, thanks to its unbeatable price/performance ratio. Cooler Master’s all-new Hyper 212 Evo costs five dollars more than the Plus. But is it five dollars better? Like its predecessor, the Evo is a skyscraper-style heatsink with four direct-contact heat pipes rising through a stack of aluminum cooling fins. It’s 6.3 inches tall from the contact plate to the top of the heat pipes, 2 inches deep (3.13 inches after adding one 12cm fan), and 4.7 inches wide. Cooler Master provides a universal mounting bracket that will fit AMD and Intel LGA775, 1155/1156, and 1366 sockets, and a separate one for Socket LGA2011. Four standoff pegs bolt through the motherboard and onto the backplate, and an X-shaped bracket holds the contact plate to the CPU with four spring screws attached to the standoffs.
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Review
A well-known and well-proven CPU heatsink in the computer world is the Cooler Master Hyper 212+. For those looking for a budget cooler in the < $30 range, the Hyper 212+ is hands down the most recommended model for both price and performance. It's extremely popular across the the entire world and holds the trophy for best bang for the buck in my mind — many other will agree. Taking into consideration the amount of success that the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ has gathered, I'm excited to take a look at Cooler Master's new version of the heatsink: the Hyper 212 Evo. I have always enjoyed Cooler Masters' products due to their simplicity, favor towards function over form, and of course the products' performance. Though the original Cooler Master Hyper 212+ was heavily praised, many users and ongoing reviews of the cooler threw criticism towards its poor(er) quality base and suffered from large gaps between the heatpipes and the rest of the base. You can find a clear picture of this condition on Page 2 of our 2009 review of the Cooler Master Hyper 212+. These gaps, as explained in this review, trap excess heat and slow the heat transfer in this area tremendously.
