Asus xonar ds 7.1 sound card review

If you listen to music, watch videos or play games on your PC (and who doesn't these days), it's not a bad idea to add a good sound card to your system. While onboard sound is generally okay, the difference between it and using a sound card is something that deserves to be heard. The last time Tweaknews reviewed an Asus sound card, it was the high-end Xonar Essence STX (check out the review ). It proved to be a fantastic card in every way, but at a price of nearly $200 US it's not the most affordable way to upgrade your PC's sound. For the more budget conscious consumer, Asus has another offering in the Xonar line - the Xonar DS PCI sound card. It features 7.1 channel sound, DTS support, and 192 KHz/24-bit audio playback all at a budget price. How much of an improvement will it be over onboard audio? I'm about to find out. Continue on to page 2 for more details. ASUS, a technology-oriented company with a global staff of more than ten thousand and blessed with one of the world's top R&D teams, is renowned for high-quality products and cutting-edge innovation. As a leading company in the new digital era, ASUS offers a complete product portfolio to compete in the new millennium.

Are sound cards still relevant?

By TechReport, published 30-09-2011

Recently, I supplemented my desktop's arsenal of hardware with a stand-alone Asus Xonar DX sound card. This upgrade was something of a shot in the dark, fueled primarily by the sudden availability of the card, in conjunction with the excellent reviews and accolades bestowed upon the Xonar series. Heck, our own Geoff Gasior gave the thing an elusive Editor's Choice award a few years ago. For me, th...
