ASUS Rampage III Formula Intel X58 Motherboard Review
ASUS’s top tier line of products is the Republic of Gamers line of products otherwise known as ROG. If you are purchasing an ROG product you know you are getting the best of the best and something that is going to last you a long time. With any line it is broken up into segments, Extreme being the highest, Formula being in the middle and Gene at the lower end. Today we will be taking a look at the Rampage III Formula board and from the name we know it sits in the middle. This is an Intel X58 board that has many of the features of its more expensive brother the Rampage III Extreme for a more reasonable price. Let’s take a look and see if this board is perfect for your next build! Special thanks to ASUS for providing us with the Rampage III Formula Intel X58 Motherboard to review. The Rampage III Formula comes in a nice retail box like most of ASUS’s ROG products. The front of the box has a Rampage III Formula logo on the back there is a long list of features and specifications. The front of the box lifts up and goes into more detail about the features of the board. When you lift up the top of the box you can actually see the motherboard too.
ASUS Rampage III Formula Review
One of the premier overclocking motherboards to be released in the past year was the Rampage III Extreme. This board built a performance reputation in the enthusiast community with its overclocking abilities but did not make any friends when it came to pricing. It seemingly did everything well. Excellent CPU overclocks, excellent memory compatibility and overclocking abilities from the start. Not to mention the BIOS updates that built upon those abilities as time has gone by. When you have such a board, your market is the extreme overclocker which in all honesty is still a pretty small percentage of the potential buyers. That's where the Rampage III Formula comes in. The Rampage III Formula is a full featured motherboard with all of the looks and most of the features of its higher priced cousin. In addition to all of the ROG specific features such as ROG Connect, Probelt and Dual BIOS chips, you get USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/s connectivity. You get all of this including the appealing black and red themed board for a more palatable price point. This board is targeted for the hardcore gamer and overclocker and if looks alone were the selling point, ASUS would have a winner.
ASUS Rampage III Formula ROG
When the ASUS Rampage III Extreme was released, it made a big stir around the internet. Now ASUS is proudly announcing their latest Republic of Gamers (ROG) motherboard: the Rampage III Formula. The Rampage III Formula is the second top of the line motherboard ASUS has to offer, making it affordable to people on a tighter budget. At an average price of $299.99 (about $75 cheaper than the Rampage III Extreme), the ASUS Rampage III Formula delivers some of the latest technologies available on the market, including USB 3.0 and SATA 3 support. It comes without the extra PCI-E slot and the extra small gadgets that are included on the Extreme. However, other manufacturers like GIGABYTE are also on top of the line with staying up to date with their motherboards, and delivering the latest technologies and advancements, especially on their X58 series UD7 and UD9 motherboards. Because of this, it really just comes down to several major points when comparing the top of the line high-end motherboards: the different features each motherboard comes with, hardware support, specifications and the quality of the components, and the performance difference of each of these motherboards.
