Building my new i7 Computer

3.15 min.

Building my new i7 (1366 socket) PC Specs: Motherboard: Asus P6X58D Premium CPU: Intel i7-920 PSU: Corsair TX750W Memory: Corsair Dominator DDR3 (3 X 2GB) GPU: EVGA GTX 260 HDD: WD Caviar Black OS: Windows 7 Ultimate & Ubuntu I originally purchased a Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 video card, but the video card driver kept rebooting every half hour or so. Even with the latest drivers (both for Win 7 and the video card) it wouldn't let up. So, I RMA'd the video card and bought an Nvidia GTX 260 card. So far the Nvidia card is working out much better than the Radeon. The only thing left to do to this system (hardware related) is install the hyper 212 plus CPU cooler that is coming in the mail. Disclaimer for Apple fanboys: I love macs...really, I do, but the mac pro is way too expensive for what I need, and the imacs are not very expandable (also, I'm not a fan of "all-in-ones"). For 3DS Max, Corel Painter, Photoshop, and gaming this machine is a good fit. If Apple made a mid-sized tower with similar hardware I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but they don't. If Apple offered OS X for a machine like this one, I'd definitely install it, but they don't. So, the machine that I need just doesn't fall into Apple's current lineup.

Guide to overclocking I7 920 @ 4ghz - Asus P6X58D-E

3.10 min.

Part 2: Rotation Films presents a guide to help overclock your I7 920 CPU @ 4ghz. This is on the motherboard we recommended in our last video, the Asus P6X58D-E. DEL key gets you into the BIOS on bootup (for those that didnt know;) Although this is a very stable and tested overclock, we are not held responsible for any damage or mishaps to you CPU, you know the risks involved. This is not suitable for the 'stock' cooler. Please use a good aircooler or the excellent Corsair h50 hybrid cooler which we use for your CPU. All credits for the configuration goes to a guy named XMISERY at overclock.net you can see the thread here for more info: www.overclock.net Ai Overclock Tuner.....................[Manual] CPU Ratio Setting......................[21.0] Intel(r) SpeedStep(tm) Tech............[Disabled] Xtreme Phase Full Power Mode...........[Enabled] BCLK Frequency.........................[191] PCIE Frequency.........................[100] DRAM Frequency.........................[DDR3-1531MHz] UCLK Frequency.........................[3063MHz] QPI Link Data Rate.....................[Auto] CPU Voltage Control....................[Manual] CPU Voltage............................[1.22500] CPU PLL Voltage........................[1.80] QPI/DRAM Core Voltage..................[1.21875] IOH Voltage............................[1.12] IOH PCIE Voltage.......................[1.50] ICH Voltage............................[1.20] ICH PCIE Voltage.......................[1.50] DRAM Bus Voltage ...

Asus DRAM_LED red light P6X58D-E

1.26 min.

Setup new PC, didn't work, took out CPU and put back in again, testing just the motherboard, CPU (also did a test with ram in but this video is without the ram and you get the exact same issue) - red DRAM_LED light stays on constantly, no beep from internal speaker, 8 and 24pin power connections (from 750watt PSU) are definitely in, must be a faulty CPU or motherboard :( note: Specs are Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard with Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366), the cooler is Scythe Mugen 2 Rev B For Socket 1366 and my ram is OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (OCZ3G1600LV6GK) (but not shown ram in this video, gives same error) *UPDATE* 30/5/10 Hi Guys, turns out it was a faulty motherboard (wouldn't POST), overclockers.co.uk tested the item and replaced it, received the new motherboard the next day, setup and worked PERFECT. Lovin' the new pc, sorry didn't update this before but been too busy enjoying this beast haha :) One guy messaged me saying that the power supply cable he had was faulty, I thought this could have been an issue but doubtful, so if it's not that then motherboard is definately faulty Very impressed with overclockers.co.uk

Custom 6 core Intel i7 980x PC build for video editing/extreme gaming Dual SSD - Alienware case

2.56 min.

This is my new video editing / gaming PC setup with the new 6 core (12 logical cores with hyper threading) Intel i7 980x. This is 100% custom build with an Alienware ALX 2.1 case. Setup as follows: Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D Premium CPU: 6 core Intel Pentium i7 980x (12 cores Hyper-threaded) PSU: Corsair 750 Modular RAM: 12GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600MHz GPU: 2x nVidia GTX 285 Main HDs: 2x Kingston V+ 128GB SSD Case: Alienware - ordered from Best Custom PC - YES you can order them brand new - CASE ONLY for those that like the design. I chose the gaming cards over workstation cards mainly because you get a lot more for your money. I don't do a lot of 3D rendering so they work just fine. I have never overclocked before, and am a little hesitant to do so. I just gave this one a tiny nudge to a little over 3.7GHz, but I really didn't know what I was doing so I stopped there. I know these things shuld be able to go a little over 4GHz with stock cooling, but I have a lot to learn to get it that far. The temps shown in the video are a little high. Ambient temperatures in the room were at 84F at the time. At the time of recording I also had forgotten to plug in power to the LED module which also powers the case fan over the GPUs. That has since been fixed and today with room temperatures at 75F the CPU runs at 26C-28C with normal PC use, and rarely goes over 40 when using an NLE or a couple test games. The GPUs on the other hand scare me a bit. The board is built for 3 way SLI so ...

xenoBUILD - Unboxing & Installing Asus P6X58D-E Motherboard

7.2 min.

This is my first ever build. I am not a professional, just an average user. This is a "future proof" motherboard. USB 3.0 and 6 gbps Sata. It can fit quad ati crossfire and triple SLI nvidia gfx cards Other than that, it looks AWESOME! it looks more than just a boring old motherboard in my opinion. It's an LGA 1366 socket for i7, which i have shown the installation for in the other video (check it out)
