Antec LanBoy Air Review

Take a quick glance at the Antec LanBoy Air and you will see this enclosure isn’t normal; it’s a PC case on steroids. Offering a completely modular customizable construction and covered in mesh, the LanBoy Air is designed for seriously hardcore enthusiasts. Take look at this Antec LanBoy Air review and see whether Antec has designed an enthusiasts dream or an expensive nightmare. The LanBoy Air is available in blue or yellow; we have the Yellow model to review. The Antec LanBoy Air arrives in a rather sleek and stylish cardboard box, certainly not adhering to the typical PC enthusiast or gamer stereotype. Inside, the case is well packaged with foam padding. Wait a minute… where are the screws? My exact question too, this is one of those rare occasions where you have to open the instructions for further details. Fortunately, Antec haven’t been mean, the screws are located in a ‘toolbox’, which is mounted at the bottom of the chassis. In order to access this toolbox you need to remove the two screws securing it in place, once removed you can flip the lid and you’ll find all the screws. Having to use a screwdriver to access your ‘toolbox’ doesn’t really make sense, it would have been far better if the toolbox was able to slide out like a drawer, so at least you can keep your mini screwdrivers inside it too.

Antec LanBoy Air ATX Case Review

Antec has earned a reputation for extraordinary case designs such as the Skeleton, Dark Fleet, Hundred and ISK series, but late last year they unveiled what's arguably their most unique and striking case yet, the LanBoy Air. At first glance you can tell this is an enthusiast and gamer-oriented product. Antec touts the LanBoy Air for its highly customizable and modular design. Weighing 20.3 lbs (9.2 kg), the case can be outfitted with an insane fifteen 120mm fans -- so you know the "Air" moniker belongs in its name. Perhaps more intriguing, nearly every part of the case is modular, even the motherboard and PSU mounts. Moreover, the case's "AirMounts" HDD mounting system suspends drives in mid-air for superior vibration and noise resistance. Along with its two internal 2.5" SSD bays and a front-panel USB 3.0 port, the LanBoy Air could very well be the most flexible computer case we've ever seen. Last year we already saw some pretty wild-looking computer cases such as the Lian Li PC-V2120, Cooler Master HAF X and the unforgettable Thermaltake Level 10, while 2011 has brought us the Thermaltake Armor A30 and Silverstone Raven 2 Evolution.

Antec Lanboy Air Review

Antec has always been one of those manufacturers that just about everyone with even only a little experience in the world of computers has heard of. For almost 25 years, Antec has been developing and producing top quality cases, power supplies and other PC accessories and their quality has not decreased over the years. I have been an Antec fan since the early days of my own computer enthusiasm, and have been a regular user of their products. Antec has always had a large fan base for their computer cases as they always have great airflow, good looks, innovative features, and overall intelligent design. The looks of someone's rig can be very important. To those who it isn't, typically you'll find their high end gaming rig in a $40 cheapo case, or better yet, strewn across their desk in no case at all. As we know, there is quite a market for the folks who care heavily for looks. Some of these products are low-end, flashy mid tower cases that have, for example "neat dragon design in the window and comes with two free 80mm red LED fans". On the opposite end, some people are okay with spending hundreds of dollars on the case of their choice that does everything that they could ever want, and has superb looks. Antec has something for those who want just about everything, but not to spend hundreds of dollars.

Antec LanBoy Air review

When Antec released the first LanBoy case a few years ago, it raised a few eyebrows, because the quality of the materials and the build quality weren't quite up to the standard of Antec's mainstream mega Sonata case. There was a very good reason for this: the market the LanBoy was aimed at, and a big clue is in the name. The LanBoy case was aimed at the people who like to take their desktop PC to LAN parties and was built to be as light as possible so it could carried around fairly easily. To this end, Antec even supplied a carrying harness for it. The latest incarnation of the LanBoy, the LanBoy Air is something different again and is quite unlike any other PC case around at the moment. Although the LanBoy carries on the family line of being mobile – a couple of folding handles are built into the top of it – it does weigh in at a hefty 9kg empty.Built mostly from steel, the first thing that strikes you when you clap eyes on the LanBoy Air is that there isn't a solid panel anywhere to be seen – every panel has a mesh insert and all are removable. Both side panels are split between three horizontal panels and one long vertical one.

Antec LanBoy Air Modular Case Review

Antec, a name that is well known and trusted by computer enthusiasts around the world. They have been designing and manufacturing top notch power supplies, enclosures, and cooling accessories for almost 25 years. I have built numerous computers using their products over the years and have always been satisfied, and at times, impressed by them. Today we are looking at one of their latest entries into the computer enclosure market and the newest member of the Lanboy famly of products, the Lanboy Air Blue. Before we get into the details, we need to take a good hard look at the overall design of this case because trust me, it is like no other case you have ever seen. It is modular and customizable. What does that mean? It means that pretty much every piece can be removed and repositioned to give you somewhere in the area of 35 trillion different ways to configure the case. Yes, I said trillion. That is a very big number. As you will see, the Lanboy Air gets its name from the fact that the outside of the case is basically a collection of mesh panels and all the fans mounted in it, it comes with 5 but you can put an additional 10, are intake fans. So you will have to unlearn what you know about case layout and design when dealing with this case.

Antec lanboy air case review

After over 25 years in the PC aftermarket, one would expect Antec to have it going on. They do. If you're a PC enthusiast, you've almost certainly heard of Antec, and I suspect many of you have used their products. Antec is one of the oldest and most respected names in the PC aftermarket and quality and performance have always been a constant with Antec products. While many of their enclosure products are somewhat conservative in appearance, Antec isn't averse to pushing the envelope in styling, form and function. For example, they made quite a splash with their Skeleton series chassis, imparting some unique features to and design elements to push the standard "test-bed" chassis over the top and into a class of its own. Back in January at CES, we were able to preview some of the new products Antec had in store for PC enthusiasts in 2010. One of these was the LanBoy Air chassis, and I was very impressed with the extensive configuration and cooling options and have been patiently awaiting a review sample. It finally arrived the other day and I'm excited to share it with you. Let's get right to it. The year was 1986. Starbucks had only a few stores.
