As far as small-form-factor desktops go, the Acer Aspire AX1930-UR10P ($499 list) is about as frills-free as they come. Of course, you can't expect champagne on a beer budget, and for under $500, the AX1930-UR10P is a sturdy competitor that performs fairly well compared with others in its class. That said, a few missing features, such as USB 3.0 ports or integrated Wi-Fi, limit the full potential of what this space-saving desktop has to offer. The AX1930-UR10P comes in a compact matte-finished black metallic chassis. Measuring 10.6 by 3.9 by 14.5 inches (HWD), it's essentially shaped like a shoebox. Though it's not nearly as compact as the Editors' Choice-winning Apple Mac mini (Thunderbolt) ($799 list, 4.5 stars) and is slightly deeper than the Acer Veriton L4610G-Ui5240W ($699 list, 3.5 stars), it's still petite enough to fit in the tightest of spaces. The only departures in the system's metallic motif are the dual plastic flip-open panels in the front. One houses two USB 2.0 ports, audio-out and microphone-in jacks, and a media card reader. The second panel contains a 16x DVD+/-RW drive. There's no Blu-ray player in the AX1930-UR10P, but that doesn't come as much of a surprise given its price.
