The Acer Aspire AS5750-9851 ($829.99 list at Amazon) is a powerful thing, decked out with a Core i7 processor that will serve up your media at fast speeds, and even let you dabble in content creation. But aside from its fast USB 3.0 port and Acer's Clear.fi syncing service there's little else this desktop replacement laptop offers. If you can't do without the extras, and you don't want to sacrifice performance, then you'll have to consider digging a little deeper into that wallet for something along the line of the Toshiba Satellite P775-S7215 ($974.99 list, 3.5 stars) or Samsung RV520-W01 ($649.99 list, 4 stars). The entire chassis is encased in a textured plastic: Black on the lid and bronze on the interior. It looks rather cheap when set beside aluminum designs, like the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch ($2,199 direct, 4 stars) and Dell XPS 15z ($1,534 direct, 4 stars). The AS5750-9851 weighs 5.45 pounds, which is on par with other desktop replacements like the 5.5-pound XPS 15z. Its 15.6-inch screen has a 1,366 by 768 (720p HD) resolution. If you want the full 1080p HD, you'll have to hook up the AS5750-9851 to an external monitor or HDTV via the HDMI port.
